No Homework Fridays
No Homework Fridays
Does it really make a difference that we dont have homeworks on Fridays. What are the
reasons behind the memorandum and what are the benefits that we can get from it.
Let us take a good look on its reason. The reason stated by DepEd on article 2 of the
memorandum states that there is the lack of time spent by the students to interact with their
parents. The huge overload of homework robs the parents and children quality time to bond
together and do enjoyable activities.
A regular weekend is composed of 48 hours. A substantial amount of it is allotted for
sleep. It takes around 16-20 hours thus leaving us around 32 to 28 hours for our activities. Then
we subtract to it the amount of time spent on our personal hygiene. Normally a person spends
an hour to an hour and a half for personal grooming. Taking away 2 to 3 hours of time and
leaving us 25-26 hours. Our body needs fuel to work so we must eat at least 3 times a day that
is without the snack. A regular meal takes around an hour so that takes 6 hours in our weekend,
LEAVING US 19-20 hours left to do some activities. If we are going to add snacks, which
regularly take half an hour and twice a day, it lessens another 2 hours. Take that away, and we
now have 17-18 hours left. Add another hour for exercise and another two for leisure and
personal time, lessens our time to around 14-15 hours. We havent added the another hour and
a half spent on household chores taking away 6 hours off our weekend thus we are left with 8-9
hours. Add another accumulated 1 hour and a half in waste disposal leaving us 5-6 hours of
time. We are left with a meagre 5-6 hours on our weekend or around 2.5 to 3 hours per day not
It is clear as shown by the data above that the no homework Fridays serves it purpose
and benefits us highly. We were given an extended amount of time to be spent with our family.
We do have busy schedules, and with free minds and extra time, we can enjoy a good weekend
to have some quality time with our family. We as students can now look forward to a well rested
and well spent weekend with our loved ones.
