SWOT Analysis

SWOT Analysis is a great tool for taking important decisions by evaluating

Strength, Weakness, Opportunities and Threat in a Project or business Venture. A
SWOT analysis can be carried out for a product, place, situation, market , industry
or person.
What do each letter of SWOT Stands for, let us describe that first.
S Strengths, Elements or Characteristics which gives advantage over the others.
W- Weaknesses, Elements or Characteristics which gives disadvantages over
others.
O Opportunities, Elements or Characteristics which can be exploited for self
advantage.
T Threats, Elements or Characteristics which can create trouble for self.
This analysis is normally used to evaluate Business , product or Market health. It is
very good tool before taking any critical and important decision in any kind of
business.
In this article, we will discuss how SWOT can be used in Self management. We will
be able to do introspection and self analysis and come to know our strengths,
weaknesses, opportunities we will get and threats we are going to face in
achieving success in our life. We can improve our way of thinking and even style of
living by applying and using this tool.
To start with, take a blank paper and fold it horizontally and vertically. Write S,
W, O and T on each quadrant.

posititude March 15

Now you have four quadrants. Strength, Weakness, Opportunity and Threat. You
are ready to do self evaluation now. Ask the following Questions to yourself and
write the answers in the respective quadrants.
S - Strength You should know what are your strengths, which gives you
advantage over others.
Questions What are my capabilities and Skills?
In which Fields, I am good and can get success?
What is my best Skills and capabilities?
Which of my Skills and talents will help me achieve my Goals?
W - Weakness You should know your weaknesses where others will have
advantage over you. You may get defeat or habits which will prevent you to
achieve you goals.
Questions What are the negative habits or traits I have?
Where I am lagging in my capabilities and Skill? Which of my habits or traits
are speed breaker in my progress?
Which all skills I need to have to develop to be successful?
I which areas I have to improve myself?
To achieve my life time goals, which of my personal weakness are becoming
bottleneck? How to remove those hindrances?
O Opportunities You need to evaluate the opportunities which you can get,
which others are not capable or able to get.
Questions
Which all opportunities are open to me?
Which situations will help me reach and achieve my goals?
Which all people can help me and support me for achieving my goals?
Which all changes I have do in my behavior and traits so that I can get success
in my life?
posititude March 15

T Threat There may be many threats in front of you which are hindering you
in achieving your goals. These may be inside you and surroundings. Find out
those threats by asking the following questions and overcome them, by
answering them.
Questions
Which of my personal habits and traits are threat for me?
Which people are against me and are creating obstruction in my work?
Which fears I am having in my mind, which are preventing me to take
opportunities?
Which all threats I am facing now and in future?
By doing the above SWOT analysis, you will be able to understand yourself, your
goals, your skills, your environment, opportunities which are available and
above all give an introspection for bringing improvement in your personal traits
and habits.
Above all, have a posititude and do the above analysis. Never be a speed
breaker for your self and others. Be cooperative, extend support to other,
support from others will automatically come to you.

Do the Good, Good Will Come to you

An orphan boy of 18 was struggling to get education for him. Life become tough.
He doesnt have money to deposit his fees. Where there is will, there way. The
boy started thinking what to do and manage the show. He planned to organize a
Music concert in the College campus. One of his friend also joined him. He was
confident that he will get enough money by organizing the concert. They met
the famous piano artist Ignacy Jan Paderewsk. His manager asked for two
thousand Dollar money as Guarantee money for the concert. They agreed and
started doing preparation for the concert. On the schedule date the concert was
organized.
But they couldnt able to sell enough tickets, even to pay the guarantee money.
They could collect only 1600 dollars only. Concert was a gaffe. But they have
promised to pay the guarantee money.
They collected another 400 dollars and went to Paderewsk with 2000 dollars.
They explained him the real situation and told him their problem. Paderewsk
was kind enough and returned back the money to the boys and told them if they
are left with any money after depositing the fees, they can pay him the left over
money. Even though both the students were stranger for Paderewsk, but he
helped them. Both the students were astonished and jumped with happiness
that they could now continue their studies further. They showed their fullest
gratitude towards Paderewsk and left for the college.
In 1919, Ignacy Jan Paderewsk was appointed Prime
Minster of newly borned Poland. This was the period
when 1st world war effected most of the european
countries. Poland was not an exception. Poland was
under going through a tough phase. There was huge
shortage of food. Population of 1.5 Lacs was struggling
with hunger.
Paderewsk, went to America for Help. He approached
American Food and Relief Administration. At that time Herbert Clark Hoover
was the chief of the department.
posititude March 15

10

Later in 1929, he become 31st President of America.

Herbert assured Paderewsk for the full support and help.
He dispatched tons of food grains and other stuff to Poland.
Paderewsk was relieved. It was a great help for him and his
Country men. He went to Herbert for thanking him for the
timely help and saving his country men from Hunger.
Herbert generously requested Paderewsk, that he need not to extend any
thanks to him. He deserves the help and can ask any kind of help from him
which comes under his purview. Herbert told Paderewsk, to remember those
two boys for whom he has done a music concert, years ago. Herbert to him,
he was one of those two boys. He may have forgotten the help he have
extended him for paying college fees years ago, but Herbert cant forgets it
till his life.
This was real life story of two big and famous world personalities.
In India Epics Srimad Bhagwad Gita there is shloka

The message is very much clear. Lord Krishna told Arjuna You have the
right to work only but never to its fruits. Let not the fruits of action be your
motive, nor let your attachment be to inaction.
Paderewsk did the concert and also demanded money. But when he came to
know that the boys were in critical problem and unable to pay their fees, he
withdrawn and never expected any thing from the boys. Years later God
helped him in a bigger way for his small help he has done. He never had even
imagined that he will be prime minister of Poland, will face disaster and this
lad (Herbert) will be head of Food Supply, America will help him. He only
helped the boys.
posititude March 15

11

So the first lesson is Never give-up. Keep trying. You will get the Solution
sooner or latter. The boys tried level best to gather 2000 Dollar, but failed.
But they got the money for their fees. If they wouldnt have tried, they
couldnt have submitted the fees. So never get dis-hearted. Keep trying. God
had thought of even a better option for you.
Secondly, Do the good, best is awaiting for you. Paderewsk got the best
return of 2000 Dollars.

Never forgets the persons who helped you. Because, it is not the person
who helped you, but the God came for your help in his form. Show your
gratitude even for a small help and support.
Think Big. Big will think of you.
Have Patience but never stop doing. Do for the God, as if God has given the
task and you are doing the same for him and not for yourself. You take care
of your work, god is there to take care of you. Devote yourself to the
almighty. Keep doing for him.
God will fulfil your needs and not luxuries.

Facial Expressions
It is an old saying in India that . Meaning is that
Face is the mirror of our mind, inner feeling and thoughts. Face expresses our
mind thoughts in the form of smile, frown, etc., other expressions. If you know
the meaning of the facial expression of others, you can easily make out others
mind set and act accordingly. Only human being is blessed with this innate trait
which no other living being is blessed.
By observing others face you can quickly recognize when others are surprised,
pained, happy, bored, interested, fatigued, anxious, contented, doubtful. As per
Ekman, humans are capable of making more than Ten thousand facial
expressions using various muscles controlling mouth, eyes, lips, nose, forehead
and jaws.
It is also possible some times that people hide their innate feelings by making
false face expressions. You may have heard the idioms in Hindi and English or Crocodiles tear, which shows false face expression.
Even though the false expressions can be caught. Even fake facial expression can
be analysed and concludes the thoughts and inner expressions of a person. Brain
uses face, its mantle and neck to express ones inner expression.
There are two types emotions which can be revealed from face expression
Negative Emotions Anger, Fear, Apathy, displeasure makes us tense and tense
manifests on our face and other parts of the body. Jaw muscles tightening,
squinting of the eyes, flicking of lips, nasal flaring, extra opening or tightening of
eyes, tightening of neck, etc., are indications of inner tension. These kind of
indications are global irrespective of races and countries.
Positive Emotions Happiness, Love, thrill, Excitement, Curiosity, enthusiam,
etc., are some of the positive emotions and are expressed though the facial and
other body language, a non-verbal communication.

posititude March 15

18

Now a days in all the e-communications people are using emotion icons to show
their expressions, instead of writing inner feeling. These icons are very much
understood by every one.
Basically Eyes, Eye-brows, Lips, Nose, mouth as single or in combination with
one of more express the emotions on the face. We will discuss these in detail in
this issue.

Our complete facial expression depicts our inner feelings. The feeling always
appears on the face. Eye, Nose, eyebrows, lips all together makes the complete
expression of the face. In every situation every part of the face move accordingly
and making a peculiar expression, expressing the mood.

This is very deep and vast subject to study. Some of the tips which we have
discussed in this issue may be helpful for you to understand people coming into
your contact in day to day life. The basic method of examining others body
language is to observe the non-verbal expression of his/her face, hands, postures,
movement of legs. etc.,. Non-verbal communication is always very close to what
the person is thinking. If you observer wresters, Batsman or bowlers, striker in
Hockey, Goal keeper, etc., they read body language of the opponent and play
accordingly. The best body language reader always Wins.

prescribe another medicine.
posititude March 15

26

8)

morning rather than at the night. People try to get fatigued doing exercises
before sleeping, assuming it will help in sound sleep. But it effect adversely.
This basically stops a sound sleep.

Therefore avoid Tea and Coffee before going to bed. Tea and Coffee are
stimulant.

10) No Smoke Smoking and chewing tobacco are also stimulants. Therefore
avoid these before going to bed.
11) No light in Bed Room There should not be any light
source in the bed room while sleeping. The room
should have complete darkness. Light disturb
sound sleep. Even LED, disturbs the sleep. If you
are unable to create a dark environment, use eye pads.
12) Light Music If you are unable to sleep, it is better to switch off all the lights
and listen light music. You may recite Hare Krishna Hare Krishna Krishna
Krishna Hare Hare, Hare Ram Hare Ram Ram Ram Hare Hare. This is tested
by me many times and I got very sound sleep.
13) Remember the God Thanks the God for giving you a wonderful and
successful day. You should feel contented and contemplated at the end of
the day.
These were few sleep disturbing factors. A sound sleep is a major factor in your

to the people of NCR and India to purchase things of their interest, which are not
available any where under single umbrella. Also exporters exploit this
opportunity and search the source of articles which can be exported.
This is great opportunity to enjoy the versatile live handcrafts still exisits in Indian

Apart from living healthy and positive life, it is very much necessary to add some
art, culture and colors to the life. Roaming in nature or feeling touched with the
art and culture adds positive energy and knowledge to us. While visiting the
Surajkund Crafts Mela I felt very touched with the art and craft from all over the
world. This time the theme state was Chhatisgarh which has a different culture
and wealthy tribal art in its bag. Focus was on its tribal heritage which is still
found well-preserved in the forests of Bastar. It was very well covered and
showcase the culture of Chhattisgarh, be it business, food, folk dance and music,
daily life, mode of earning etc. Items made of Metal, Leather, Mural Art, Bastar
Art, Terracotta Art, Traditional Forest Medicine, Traditional Ornaments, Gedi and
Suwa Dances, traditional art crafts were displayed on the trees too.

The above shown mural was displayed on the wall, which attracted me most. It
shows how a life prays god for sending him to the human life and commits what
he will do, but actually after getting human life what he does and what he forget
to do. This is what happen to everyone of us. We seldom get disconnected from
basics of life. This message ignite within us the lamp of spirituality and basics. In
the busy-ness of our day-today life we forget our father and engage most of our
time handling our lifes adversities and problems, which are the side effect of
ignorance of god. We can remember in any form, Lord Krishna, Jesus, Wahe Guru,
Alaha, Budha, Lord Mahavira or any other idol. If we are always connected, then
we may not face adversities in our life and even if we face them, we overcome
the situation without much of efforts due to the connected positive force with us.

Vastu Tips for Office

Vastu principles are applicable in every sphere of life, whether office or our
house. In this issue we will discuss about application of Vastu in our Office.
Building a beautifully designed and decorated office doesnt complete it.
Proper thought should be given and planned, so that positive energy brings a
positive work environment amongst the employees, adequate air and sun light
in the office for freshness, water and fire factors are balanced, slope of the
building, outlet of wastes, inflow of money and prosperity and above all a place
where head of the office can have peace of mind so that best decisions are
taken for the progress and prosperity of the organization. Office entry and
exterior decoration also effect the progress of the organisation, which also has
to be taken care.

Foremost principle of vastu is to keep East or North-east of the corner of

any building clean and clear. There should be not obstruction. Slope should
be downward and more space has to be provides for inflow of positive
energy inside.
For uniformity of the structure, the height should be same on all four
sides/corners. This bring consistency and uniformity.
At per Vastu, South/South-West corner is always reserve for the owner of
the institute, whether it is home or office. Therefore, sitting of head of the
office should be in South/South-west corner of the building. Other Staff
members can be placed in North, East, or any other direction
combinations.
If possible, accounts department should be in south-eastern direction of
the building.
North or northeast or East corner is pious corner of living place. Therefore
you can have a small temple with your deity picture. Clean this place every
day and a lamp should be enlighten in morning and evening everyday.
Since we have to keep north/north-east corner free for inflow, therefore
you can have reception area in this direction. Receptionist should face
towards North/North-east direction and should greet every visitor with
smile and help him to reach the concerned without wasting much time.
The visitor should not waste time sitting in the reception area. Waiting is
not good for the organisation.

North-West corning is always good for generation of good and new Ideas,
according to vastu. Therefore Conference rooms and meeting rooms should
always be in North/North-west corner of the building.
Septic tanks, Toilets should be in West or in-between North-west of the
corner of the building.
North, East and North-East corner are good for water tanks, bore-wells.
Therefore pure water resources should be in North, North-East corners. But
remember, if overhead water tanks are needed, those should be in Southwest corner of the build and its height should be more than N-E corner.
Stair case should be from South towards East direction. Reverse is not
recommended.
All the parking should be in South, West or in South-West corner. Keep the
north and North-East corner free. Even big gardens and trees should not be in
north. A Small loan without any big tree can be in North or North-East corner.
Big trees and gardens should always in the south directions. This will stop
negative energies entering the building.
South-East corner is a good for kitchen. Therefore staff canteen should be in
South-East corner of the Building.
South-East corner depict Fire, therefore all Generator Sets, Transformers,
Electricity meter, smoke Chimney should be installed in this corners.
Security is an important part of a building. If the gate is facing East Directory,
then security cabin should be on North-west side of the gate and if the gate is
north facing, then cabin should be on north-West side.
All the manufacturing machines should always be in west, South and Southwest zone of the premises.
Under process/semi finishes goods should be placed in South or West corners.
Finished goods, for sales should be stored in North-West corner, from where it
can easily packed and dispatched.

Gain in Loss?
Once a man was asked, What did you gain by regularly
praying to God? The man replied, nothingbut let me
tell you what I lost : Anger, Ego, Greed, Depression,
Insecurity, and Fear of Death. Sometimes, the answer to
our prayers is not gaining but losing; which ultimately is
the gain.

Indian Prime Minister Sh. Narendra Bhai Modi is a great visionary.

According to census, the child sex Ratio (0-6 years) in India was
927 girls per 1,000 boys in 2001, which dropped drastically to 914
girls for every 1,000 boys in 2011. To increase the ratio, girl child
has to be saved from feticide. This step is a great step in saving and
giving promoting participation of girls in every sphere of life.
To contribute to this mission, posititude also wants to contribute.
In this issue we have presented a Hindi poem written by Mr. Nar
Singh Saini. This poem describes the feelings of a girl child in the
womb of her mother. The message is very clear Girl feticide has to
be totally abolished.
