Kindergarten TEKS
(A) Students develop number and operations
through several fundamental concepts.
(C) Students identify characteristics of objects that
can be measured and directly compare objects
according to these measurable attributes.
(1) Mathematical process standards
(B) use a problem-solving model that incorporates
analyzing given information, formulating a plan or
strategy, determining a solution, justifying the
solution, and evaluating the problem-solving
process and the reasonableness of the solution;
(E) create and use representations to organize,
record, and communicate mathematical ideas

A rubber ball rebounds to half the height it drops. If

the ball is dropped from a rooftop 18m above the
ground, what is the total distance traveled by the time
it hits the ground the third time?
A.)31.5
B.)40.5
C.)45
D.)63

Step 1. Release the ball from the rooftop at 18m for

its first bounce.
18m

Step 2. Once it hits the floor it will only bounce

halfway up to 9m.

9m

Step 3. Then it will fall back down 9m for its

second bounce.

9m

Step 4. This time when it bounces halfway up it will

go up to 4.5m.

4.5m

Step 5. Finally, the ball will fall back down 4.5m for
the third bounce.

4.5m

Step 6. You will then add up all the numbers to

get the total distance.
18
45

4.5

4.5 =

The answer will be C.) 45
