Behavior Policies and Etiquette

We will be exploring many different types of music, and yes, you may not be familiar
with some of it. Please try to be open-minded and respectful of the world of music and
lets have a good time! Music is a universal language.
1. Practice Respect. Good individual behavior and teamwork is expected.

Respect each other, the band leadership, the staff, the parents and volunteers, the
equipment, and the uniforms. Through this, you will gain respect as well.
Demonstrate appropriate behavior as a Performer and an Audience Member and
dont forget to support your teammates at all times J

1.

Only water is allowed in the classroom. (That means no food or gum.) Food or
gum on stage during performance or rehearsals is not allowed. In addition, eating in
uniform is not allowed, and will result in lowered grade, non-performance status, or
other consequences.

2. Keep your personal electronics put away.

3. Bring a Positive Attitude. Be properly prepared and willing to work in order to
achieve something GREATJ. Come prepared every day with your music folders,
materials, and a sharpened pencil. In order to be on time, you must be in your seat
when the bell rings with your materials ready to begin. Your BEST effort and
behavior is expected every day. Success in performing arts is greatly dependent on
attendance and effort. Less emphasis is placed on your skill level. If your effort is
good, your skills will automatically improve. You will learn and improve greatly if you
also practice individually. At the end of class, clean up and return your equipment
before exiting the room. Practice self control- Excessive talking or whispering will
result in a lowered grade. If you need time to discuss a class project, rehearsal will
stop so that it can be addressed. Your 100% attention is important. Stretch breaks
will be given.
4.

Be on time. If you do come in late, come in quietly, and walk behind the ensemble

to go to your place. Check in with teacher at the end of the period to make sure you
were marked present.
5. Everyone participates EVERY day. Please let me know before class if you are not
feeling well, or you have other business to attend to. Students will not be permitted
to do other school business on Tuesdays when the piano accompanist is here, or
during other special rehearsals.
6.

Represent KHS Choir and Orchestra with pride. As a member of KHS

Choir or Orchestra Program, students are expected to follow the rules, regulations,
and policies in the KHS Student Planner. At the discretion of the director, a student
violating any of these rules may receive the stated consequences, or be removed
from an upcoming trip or performance, or from the Program.

Do not touch or play the grand piano; it is not a toy.

8. Lead with your Actions, your Attitude, and your Excellence!
