The internship program under Tanggol Kalikasan started on April 10, 2013 with a three-day orientation seminar in Quezon City facilitated by former interns. Interns attended lectures from lawyers on various topics including human rights, environmental laws, gender sensitivity, and peasants' rights. The interns then temporarily lived with a member of Bantay Dagat in Quezon to observe the daily lives and livelihoods of coastal communities as well as Tanggol Kalikasan's mangrove projects. The program started on April 10, 2013. A three-day basic orientation seminar was held at Quezon City. It was facilitated by ALGs (Alternative Lawyers Group) former interns. Several lectures were rendered by lawyers who are experts in their own field. Topics covered are: 1. Human Rights 2. Alternative Lawyering 3. Indigenous Peoples 4. Environmental Laws 5. Gender Sensitivity 6. Womens Rights 7. Migrants 8. Labor Sector 9. Popular Education and paralegalism 10.Peasants and Agrarian Reform 11.Developmental Legal Aid 12.Affidavit Making 13.Urban Poor Ms. Ebreo and I temporarily lived with a member of the Bantay Dagat (Mr. Ramon Grimaldo) in Purok Magdamayan, Caridad Ilaya, Atimonan, Quezon. We observed how families near a coastal area live their life, how each of their days pass, what keeps them busy, what they do for a living, and how each family becomes a member of the entire coastal community. We were given glimpse on the projects of Tanggol Kalikasan with the help of the environmental law enforcers (Bantay Dagat) in the locality. We saw their mangrove project and various fish culture pens (baklad) in the area. During the internship program, each of us were assigned with tasks to accomplish. There were on-going cases to digest, English manual to translate into Tagalog, seminars to organize, and letters to be sent to various offices like Supreme Court and Court of Appeals. We attended various seminars which were organized by Tanggol Kalikasan. 1. Basic Life Support Training held at Fresh Air Hotel, Lucban, Quezon. We were facilitated by trained first aiders. We were taught the basic bandaging styles and how to do the CPR and rescue breathing. 2. Seminar on Forestry Manual held at Widus Hotel, Clarkfield, Pampanga. Participants were Regional Directors of DENR. Ms. Ebreo and I were assigned in the documentation of the said seminar. 3. Trainors Training on Prosecution of Environmental Law Cases held at Grand Seas Hotel in Subic, Zambales. Participants were prosecutors from the 16 regions in the Philippines. 4. Training on Technology of Participation Level 1: Basic Group Facilitation Methods held at Visayan State University, Baybay, Leyte
Participants were instructors from different universities. The difference
between a teacher and a facilitator was emphasized.
