Week in Review: February 29 March 4

Last weeks poem and accompanying Word Work sort Circles is coming home. Ask your child to show you
how they sorted the shape. Do a scavenger hunt or play I spy around the house trying to find other
objects in your house that would fit into these 3 categories.
This week in Sound Connections we covered Y and Q. Q is one of two letters in the alphabet that
combines the sounds of letters we already know: k and w. As mentioned before, some students will mix
up the letter Y and say the sound made by W because Y is pronounced why. This is part of the reason
we use the Sound Connections program, so that the gesture used for the letter helps to cue them as to
which letter we actually mean.
Our class had a great time going to the Kimberley Gymnastics Centre with Mrs. Kostiuk! She took a
bunch of pictures for me so I will be posting those to the blog. I stayed back with Mrs. Kostiuks grade 3
class and did some fun science activities.
Wednesday was another beautiful ski day. Another huge thank you to the parents that are able to
volunteer on these activity days! It is so helpful and it really makes a difference in how much fun the
kids have throughout the day!
On Thursday, we went to Garden View Village to meet up with Dirk De Geus who is Wildsights food
sustainability coordinator. He was planting seeds with our senior friends and he thought we might like to
join them. We planted 9 different types of plants: heirloom tomatoes, cherry tomatoes, cucumbers,
peppers, broccoli, cabbage, leeks, onions and corn. Dirk will take the seed trays home to start the
seedlings until they are ready to plant in the Open Gate Garden behind the Kimberley Aquatic Centre.
We are hoping we can visit our seedlings once they are transplanted!
Report cards were sent home on Friday! If you have any questions or you would like to schedule a
meeting, please call or e-mail me at crystal.scott@sd6.bc.ca. Check out our class blog
