KICKBALLS FOR KIDS RECOGNIZED

IN THE HOUSE OF COMMONS

OTTAWA, Ontario, April 21, 2010 – Kickballs for Kids founder Chris Thompson of Stonewall,
Manitoba was recognized today in the House of Commons for his efforts to bring sport to the
poorest children of Africa. Thompson thanked his Member of Parliament, James Bezan (Selkirk-
Interlake) for bringing this project to the attention of Parliamentarians and all Canadians.

“I am very grateful to Mr. Bezan for helping to spread the word about Kickballs for Kids,” said
Thompson. “By raising this in the House of Commons, he is helping to bring this project to the
attention of all Canadians, including the media and the potential sponsors and partners that can
help this project grow.”

With World Cup 2010 taking place in South Africa, Thompson feels that there is a tremendous
opportunity for World Cup sponsors to help in his quest to bring the sport of soccer to the
poorest children of Africa.

“I am so pleased with the support that I’ve received from friends, family, and people all over
the country,” he said. “But I don’t think this project has even scratched the surface of what it
could do. With the World Cup approaching, I see a real opportunity for organizations to benefit
from their involvement with my project. And, of course, the ones who benefit the most will be
the children.”

The idea for Kickballs for Kids came to Thompson as he travelled through Africa and witnessed
the poverty that so many Africans, especially children, have to deal with every day. He saw the
love of soccer that exists throughout the continent but also saw that many children lacked even
a simple ball to play the game.

Thompson sent an e-mail to his friends and family in Manitoba, who quickly sent him almost
$2000 to cover the cost of soccer balls that he was to deliver. Word spread quickly and drew
the attention of the Manitoba media whose coverage helped to raise an additional $2000. His
short-term goal is to deliver 1000 soccer balls and he has raised enough funds to date to cover
the cost of approximately 400. His long-term goal, however, is to establish Kickballs for Kids into
something more permanent.
“The joy that I’ve seen on children’s faces when I give them a brand new soccer ball is
indescribable,” he said. “I want to see that joy on the face of every kid in Africa. And if I can get
some help, there’s no reason that I would have to stop there.”
