MEETTHESTUDENTTEACHER

Dear Parents/Guardians:
Hello, my name is Shannon Van Pelt and I am very excited to be completing my
student teaching experience in Mrs. Sanchezs second and third grade classroom! I am
looking forward to having the opportunity to get to know and work with your child.
I am currently a senior at Grand Valley State University where I am pursuing a
Bachelor of Arts Degree in Elementary Education and Language Arts. When I am not
teaching my hobbies include reading, running, and spending time with my friends and
family. Last semester, I had a wonderful experience as a student-assistant in a fifth grade
classroom in Lowell, Michigan. Additionally, I have had many other prior experiences
working with students such as tutoring kindergarten students in reading, tutoring fourth
and fifth grade students in mathematics, and assisting in a preschool classroom. My
previous experiences working with students has taught me so much and I look forward to
growing and learning from your child throughout my time student teaching.
In order to complete my student teaching experience, Grand Valley State University
requires that I must videotape myself teaching one lesson in the classroom during this
semester. This video will be used solely for the purposes of reviewing and reflecting upon
my teaching abilities. I have attached the Photo/Video Release Form and I ask that you fill it
out and send it back to school with your child at your earliest convenience.
I look forward to this semester of student teaching and I invite you to stop by the
classroom to introduce yourself, before or after school! If you have any questions or
concerns, please do not hesitate to contact me during school hours at (616)-819-3130. Thank
you so much for giving me the opportunity to work with such a wonderful group of students!
Sincerely,
Shannon Van Pelt
