What is OpenOffice.org?

OpenOffice.org (OOo) is both a software product


and a community of volunteers who produce and
support the software.
The OpenOffice.org software is a freely available,
full-featured office suite.

Writer
Writer (word processor)
is a feature-rich tool for creating
letters,
books, reports,newsletters, brochures, and other
documents. You can insert graphics and objects
from other components into Writer documents.
Writer can export files to HTML, XHTML, XML,
Adobe’s Portable Document Format (PDF), and
several versions of Microsoft Word files. It also
connects to your email client.

Menu bar
The Menu bar is located across the top of the screen,
just below theTitle bar.
File contains commands that apply to the entire
document such as Open, Save, and Export as PDF.
Edit contains commands for editing the document such
as Undo and Find & Replace. It also contains
commands to cut, copy and paste selected parts of your
document.
View contains commands for controlling the display of
the document such as Zoom and Web Layout.

Insert contains commands for inserting elements
into your document such as Header, Footer, and
Picture.
Format contains commands, such as Styles and
Formatting and AutoFormat, for formatting the
layout of your document.
Table shows all commands to insert and edit a
table in a textdocument.
Tools contains functions such as Spelling and
Grammar,Customize, and Options.
Window contains commands for the display
window.

Toolbars
The top docked toolbar is called standard toolbar.
The second toolbar across the top (default location)
is the Formatting toolbar.
It is a context-sensitive bar that shows the relevant
tools in response to the cursor’s current position or
selection.

Opening an existing document

Mark Save AutoRecovery information every, and set

Ribbons

Microsoft originally implemented ribbons as


part of its "Fluent User Interface" in Office 2007
Ribbon is
the control center to access tasks you will
perform. The Ribbon is a series of tabs, each of
which display groups of buttons
for the most commonly used tasks.

Headers and footers are essential for research

across the length of the document, but the cells will
remain at this width, even as you begin adding content
to the cell

If you want to use these same dimensions for any
future tables, check the Remember dimensions
for new tables check box.

Lab Exercise 1

A workstation is a device that accepts information (in the


form of digitalized data) and manipulates it for some result
based on a program sequence of instructions on how the
data is to be processed. Complex workstations also
include the means for storing data (including the
program,which is also a form of data) for some necessary
duration. A program may be invariable and built into the
workstation(and called logic circuitry as it is on
microprocessors) or different programs may be provided
to the workstation (loaded into its storage and then started
by an administrator or user).Today's workstations have
both kinds of programming.

1-Open a blank MS Word document and type the
above text.
2-Copy the last sentence Today's workstations

3-Change the typeface of the entire document to
11 point Verdana.

5-Change the spacing of the entire document from
