The Parent Trap

Details
Players: 1-2 children, 1 parent
Equipment: 4 markers OR corners of a room, with walls at least 8 metres long

Introduction and story

This game will strengthen your child’s core and legs, while giving both of you a chance to bond.
Story - Your mum/dad is feeling really lazy, but they need to get to the shops to get the food for the week.
It’ll be a struggle to get them there and once they are there you will need to do the magic move to get
them to leave the shop so you can get to the next one and get all the shopping done.

Instructions
Step 1: Set up markers in a square, 8 metres apart. (Disregard this step if you are using corners of a
room.)

Step 2: You and your child start at the first marker. You have
your back to the next marker and your child faces you. Child
places their hands on your hips.

Step 3: Your child pushes you towards the next marker. This
is a resistance exercise, so you must resist your child’s pushes
enough so that he/she struggles a little and needs to use their
back and legs, and not just their arms to push.

Step 4: When you arrive at the marker/corner, your child does

10 star jumps to ‘free’ you from the trap.

Step 5: Repeat steps 2-4 to all markers/corners. Decrease the

amount of resistance you give you child each time he/she
pushes you, so they require fewer pushes to move you to the
corners. This helps to build their confidence.
