Avalanche!

Details
Players: 1 child
Equipment: 1 wall, 1 step opposite the wall at least 10 metres away OR 1 marker (anything to mark
distance)

Introduction and story

This game will strengthen your child’s arms, while giving them a chance to practice their counting.
Story - You are an explorer, walking through the mountains and you come across a cave. You decide to
go into the cave and see what’s inside. After taking a few steps into the cave, you hear a rumbling sound
and all of a sudden an avalanche of rocks is tumbling down from the mountain and blocking the only exit
of the cave. The only way to get out is to push the rocks and escape the cave to continue exploring.

Instructions
Step 1: Set up the marker 10 metres away from the wall. (Disregard this if you have a step.)

Step 2: Your child stands facing the wall, approximately 1-2 of his/her steps away from the wall.

Step 3: Your child does 15 wall push-ups with a clap between each push-up.

 Start standing up, and then lean against a wall with your hands out.
 With your hands at shoulder length apart lean forward and place your hands on the wall with bent
elbows.
 Press your body back to the starting position and release from the wall to clap.

Step 4: Your child runs to the marker OR runs to the step and does a step up.

Step 5: Your child runs back to the wall and does 14 push-ups.

Step 6: Repeat steps 2-6 decreasing the number of push-ups by 1, and increasing the laps to the marker by
1 each time. If you have a step, your child should increase the number of step-ups by 1, instead of the
number of laps.
Continue this pattern until your child is doing 1 push-up and 15 laps or step-ups.
