Overview Week 1 Day 1(Monday) 9-1 Introduction to Area Formulas of Triangles and Quadrilaterals OBJECTIVE : Developing and apply the formulas for the areas of triangles and special quadrilaterals Solve problems involving perimeters and areas of triangles and special quadrilaterals WARM-UP: Pythagorean Theorem assessment and practice; students will find the missing side length for various right triangles. ACTIVITY: Power point and discovery learning; students take notes and participate in finding the formulas for triangles and quadrilaterals. HOMEWORK: Shady Areas Hand-Out

Day 2 (Tuesday) 9-1 Practice OBJECTIVE : Developing and apply the formulas for the areas of triangles and special quadrilaterals Solve problems involving perimeters and areas of triangles and special quadrilaterals WARM-UP: Finding the area of a kite as well is a Pythagorean Theorem problem. ACTIVITY: The students will spend the class period working through the lesson quiz that is provided by the textbook. HOMEWORK: Page 563 #1-10, 23-25, 62, 64

Day 3 (Wednesday) 9-2 Introduction to Polygon Area OBJECTIVE : Develop and apply the formula for the area of a regular polygon WARM-UP: Pythagorean Theorem problem again to make sure students know how to use it. ACTIVITY: Power point that walks the students through finding the area of a polygon; Along Came Polly Story. HOMEWORK: Page 603 #7, 9, 28, 31

Day 4 (Thursday) 9-2 Introduction to Area and Circumference of a Circle OBJECTIVE : Develop and apply the formulas for area and circumference of a circle WARM-UP: Finding the area of a pentagon problem ACTIVITY: Power point where the students learn vocabulary and take notes; then the students will do some application problems to practice HOMEWORK: Page 603 #1-5, 15-17, 43, 44

Day 5 (Friday) 9-2 Practice OBJECTIVE : Develop and apply the formulas for area and circumference of a circle Develop and apply the formula for the area of a regular polygon WARM-UP: Whole group polygon problem to find the area and perimeter. ACTIVITY: Students will do the practice quiz that is online for 9-2. This will take the whole class period. HOMEWORK: Ready-To-Go Exercises for 9-3

Week 2 Day 6 (Monday) 9-3 Introduction to Composite Figures OBJECTIVE : Use the Area Addition Postulate to find the areas of composite figures Use composite figures to estimate the areas of irregular shapes Apply geometric skills to solve formulas for variables WARM-UP: Redecorating Project- Students will find the area of the room. ACTIVITY: Power point- students will learn the vocabulary used for composite shapes and then do practice problems. Any remaining time will be spent doing the homework. HOMEWORK: Practice 9-3 B Hand-Out [Extra Credit : 9-3 A Hand-Out] Day 7 (Tuesday) 9-5 Changing Dimensions OBJECTIVE : Describe the effect on area and perimeter when one or more dimensions of a figure are changed Apply the relationship between perimeter and area in problem solving WARM-UP: Lesson Quiz power point questions ACTIVITY: Students watched the video the night before and will spend the class period doing their homework. HOMEWORK: 9-5 # 1-7, 30-32, 40-42 Day 8 (Wednesday) 9-5 Practice OBJECTIVE : Describe the effect on area and perimeter when one or more dimensions of a figure are changed Apply the relationship between perimeter and area in problem solving WARM-UP: Homework quiz given that students can work on in groups but must hand in individual copies ACTIVITY: In class Free Response Practice along with online practice quiz HOMEWORK: In class Free-Response

Day 8 (Thursday) OBJECTIVE : Assess where students understanding is at WARM-UP: Questions about online quiz ACTIVITY: In class QUIZ HOMEWORK: Test review packet
