In the December 2008 edition of 'The (Carradale) Antler' (Issue 195), The Editor notes that "It is not often that he
receives a book for review, but this new book, "KINTYRE BIRDS - Notes, Quotes & Anecdotes", by Angus
Martin, published by The Kintyre Antiquarian & Natural History, is an ideal Christmas present. Tightly packed with
information and personal comment it is a bargain (for further information about prices etc. e-mail judymartin733 (at)

"In recommending the book, 'The Antler' Editor can do no better than quote the summary on its back page - ‘This
informal and engaging compilation on the wild birds of Kintyre draws on diverse sources. It contains contributions
from living bird-watchers - both local and visiting - and extracts from published works - old and new, ornithological
and literary - as well as bird-related folklore and place-names and many local names for birds, in Gaelic and Scots.
"It is not, however, a comprehensive ornithological account of Kintyre birds and their current status, but tends more
towards observations on the behaviour of birds and, indeed, on the behaviour of humans in relation to birds.
"The material was assembled and edited by Angus Martin, Campbeltown-born poet, historian and lifelong naturalist,
with the active participation of more than thirty contributors".
