Nurse Recruiter,
I am writing you regarding my application for the open position in your Intensive Care
unit. I believe that I would be an ideal candidate for this position, and an asset to your
nursing team. I am a current University of Arizona nursing student, expecting to
graduate in December 2016 with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing and a minor in
Psychology.
I participated in Mayo Clinics 2016 Summer Extern Program, working on the
Transplant/Intermediate Care unit. Throughout this time I gained valuable experience in
the care and treatment of high acuity patients. I was able to further develop my skills in
assessing critically ill patients and monitoring any changes in their condition. I also
gained technical skills experience with EKG interpretation, maintaining arterial lines and
caring for surgical drains. By the end of the program, I was able to assume the majority
of the patient care load including assessments, wound care, patient teaching, and
documentation. I also completed 180 hours on a Pediatric Hematology/Oncology unit
during my senior clinical preceptorship, where I gained further experience in critical
thinking and hands-on care of the high acuity patient. I assumed responsibility for all
nursing tasks including assessments, medication administration, documentation,
delegation and inter-professional care planning for oncology and bone marrow
transplant patients. All of these experiences have assisted in developing my critical care
nursing skills, in addition to my 270 hours in the Intensive Care unit for my high acuity
rotation.
In addition to my extensive clinical hours in the high acuity area, I have been told I have
excellent therapeutic communication skills and a calming and approachable bedside
manner. During my college career, I have taken advantage of many different leadership
and volunteer opportunities, as you can see from my attached resume. If you have any
