Withinindustry,pipingisasystemofpipesusedtoconveyfluids
(liquidsandgases)fromonelocationtoanother.Theengineering
disciplineofpipingdesignstudiestheefficienttransportoffluid.[1][2]
Industrialprocesspiping(andaccompanyinginlinecomponents)can
bemanufacturedfromwood,fiberglass,glass,steel,aluminum,plastic,
copper,andconcrete.Theinlinecomponents,knownasfittings,valves,
andotherdevices,typicallysenseandcontrolthepressure,flowrateand
temperatureofthetransmittedfluid,andusuallyareincludedinthe
fieldofPipingDesign(orPipingEngineering).Pipingsystemsare
documentedinpipingandinstrumentationdiagrams(P&IDs).If
necessary,pipescanbecleanedbythetubecleaningprocess.
"Piping"sometimesreferstoPipingDesign,thedetailedspecificationof
thephysicalpipinglayoutwithinaprocessplantorcommercial
building.Inearlierdays,thiswassometimescalledDrafting,Technical
drawing,EngineeringDrawing,andDesignbutistodaycommonly
performedbyDesignerswhohavelearnedtouseautomatedComputer
AidedDrawing/ComputerAidedDesign(CAD)software.,l

alsoremovewasteintheformofsewage,andallowventingofsewagegasestotheoutdoors.Firesprinkler
systemsalsousepiping,andmaytransportnonpotableorpotablewater,orotherfiresuppressionfluids.
Pipingalsohasmanyotherindustrialapplications,whicharecrucialformovingrawandsemiprocessedfluids
forrefiningintomoreusefulproducts.SomeofthemoreexoticmaterialsofconstructionareInconel,titanium,
chromemolyandvariousothersteelalloys.
