Study Abroad Reflection Paper

1. What requirements must you meet in order to study abroad? (i.e. GPA, etc.)
-Cumulative GPA of 2.75 for semester or year-long programs; Cumulative GPA of 2.50 for summer programs
-Must have at least sophomore standing during term abroad
-Must not be in final semester of degree program during period abroad
-Must have the approval of the Office of International Programs and your department

2. What are the three (3) different types of study abroad programs available to students?
1. Exchange provides students an affordable way to participate in study abroad. These programs utilize an
established relationship between specific universities that exchange students with each other with each student
paying the tuition and fees at their home university and not at the host university;
2. Direct Study Abroad program is administered by an organization offering study abroad support services (i.e.
School for International Training (SIT); American Institute for Foreign Studies (AIFS); International Studies Abroad
(ISA).
3. Faculty-Led - programs that are organized and/or accompanied by an NCAT faculty member, usually during the
summer.

3. What are the deadlines for applying for study abroad?


Spring: October 14
Fall: March 15
Summer: March 15
4. What are three different ways that you can raise money to fund your trip?
-Financial Aid Package
-Scholarships
-Sponsors and Savings
5. Name two (2) scholarships that can fund you for your trip and how you meet the requirements?
I do not meet the requirements for any of the scholarships because they all say I must be a sophomore.
I am currently a freshman.
6. Where would you like to travel to for your study abroad experience and why?

For my study abroad experience, I would like to travel to Hong Kong, China. I chose this destination
because it is said to be one of the leading financial centers in the world. My intended major is Finance
so this would be a great opportunity for me to gain knowledge and experience regarding financial
decisions.

7. Does A&T offer this as an option? If not, then what would be your second choice destination?
Yes, A&T offers Hong Kong, China as a study abroad destination.
