Anwar, Sherly Nurwiyanti. 2015. The relationship between the concentration of

Nigella sativa with Knockdown Period against Adult Culex Genus
mosquitoes using Electric Evaporation Method. Final Project, Faculty of
Medicine, University of Muhammadiyah Malang. Advisor: (I) Irma
Suswati, Advisor (II) Pertiwi Febriana Candrawati.
Background: Nigella sativa as one of the plant containing active substances, such
as carvone, fenchone, terpinen-4-ol, p-cymene and citronellol which have a
function as an insecticide against adult mosquitoes of the Culex genus. There are
many use of chemical insecticides which cause both respiratory disorder and
environment pollution.
Object of the Research: to know the knockdown effect of Nigella Sativa extract
against adult mosquitoes of the Culex genus using electric evaporation.
Research Method: this research uses true experimental-post test only controlling
group design method. The concentrations of Nigella Sativa which is used are 0%,
25%, 50%, 75%, 100. Data analysis uses non-parametric spearman test.
Result and Discussion: Based on Spearman correlation test results showed a
strong correlation between the increase of Nigella Sativa extract concentrations
with the increase of Knockdown Period with a P value of 0.00 (<0.05) and the
strength of the correlation coefficient -0.728 (> 60%) in which the negative value
showed that the increase of the concentrations of Nigella Sativa extracts effects
the decrease of Knockdown Period.
Conclusion: There is a relationship of Nigella Sativa concentrations as a natural
insecticide with a knockdown period effect against adult mosquitoes of the Culex
genus using electric evaporation method with the optimal concentration of 75%.
Key Words: Nigella Sativa, adult mosquitoes of Culex Genus, insecticide, KT50.
