Shaykh al-Islam ibn Taymiyyah (may Allah have mercy
upon him) said: "As for what has been related through
texts regarding the virtues for the one reciting Qur'an,
one performing prayer obtains far greater more [in
reward] than what others do." You can also say: "And as
for what has been related through texts regarding one
who ponders and contemplates the meaning of the
Qur'an, the one performing prayer also obtains more [in
"reward] than what others do.

The True Reality of Reciting the Qur'an
Recitation of Qur'an is not merely reading its words or
memorizing its verses and chapters. Rather, the true
reality of recitation is reading, understanding, and acting
upon it. Whoever does not act in accordance to the
Qur'an, he will not be considered amongst its people that
have simply memorized the words. Rather, he will not be
considered from amongst its people until the Qur'an is
seen emanating from him through active worship,
decorum, and avoidance of what makes Allah angry..
