URBAN FARMING SEMINAR

Despite of the weather, the training for urban farming seminar was a success as Mr. David
Balilla our longtime partner in the said event was invited to our school to share his expertise to
our dear students. This is the first time for us to conduct an in-house activity in relation to
farming. This was about farming on a small scale project inside the city. The seminar taught the
students how to plant vegetables in the urban area and told them that the food they ate can
affect their personality due to various chemicals that we sprayed on it.

The seminar was conducted at AVR1&2 from 9:00am to 12:00PM.

He showed different techniques in planting and told the students that theres no reason for them
not to plant. He uses sacks and plastic gallons as alternative pot for planting and told them to
hang it if theres a flood.
Mr. Balilla brought his tools and equipment with him and was donated to our school garden after
the activity.

He enjoyed teaching our students using our interactive board and was amazed on its function.

He used sacks too and showed the students about his unique ways of planting inside it. He
inserted the seedlings on the side of the sack. The students learned how to make ready-made
soil compose of ordinary soil, ipa, chicken pop, sand and compost. He noted that they need to
wait at least one week for the soil to have nutrients. After the process, they need to monitor the
pests. He explained the four ways in monitoring. One is Physical where an individual personally
removes the pests with hands; Biological, where an individual let the pests fight each other;
Mechanical where an individual uses chemicals which commonly used in large scale farms and
Cultural which the individual uses a greenhouse.
