educational theory and / or literature or policy cited in the plan
comment on the progress according to the action plan and advise of any changes to the plan and the reasons for
such amendments
evaluate the success or otherwise of the expected measurable outcomes with reference to the evaluation

1. Give a brief description of the Project and its outcomes

My mentor teacher Michael Tong has a great passion for the students education at Clonard, and strives to do whatever he
can to assist the students further in their education. Michael teaches Outdoor Education to the year 9 students, and I am
lucky enough to have him as my mentor teacher for the final year of placement.
Sometime ago Michael decided he wanted to create a document resource for his entry level students into Outdoor Education,
however with his busy work schedule Michael has found little time to put together this resource, and that has to him and I
working collaboratively to complete it.
With Michael guidance, I have created a 20+ page resource document for the students that is an introduction to Outdoor
Education and all the basics they will need to know both physically for the camps and academically.
This resource includes many elements including a gear list for school camp including clothing and toiletries, to map reading,
map features and how to tie knots to set up their sleeping tarps.

2. Provide evidence of how project aims were met or not met and why with reference to relevant
educational theory / or literature or policy cited in the plan

Through constant communication with Michael we were able to achieve to outcomes through streamlining the
relevant information to put into the document.
This projects aims were met when we attended camp. This was the first time for many students that they had to
pitch a tent for themselves and cook in the bush by themselves. This resource became evidently successful and
relevant to Vygotskis Zone of Proximal Development (1999) where students can complete certain tasks with
guidance, as opposed to not being able to complete them unaided.

3. Comment on progress according to your Action Plan and advise of any changes to this plan
and the reasons for any changes.

There were no changes to the final resource as per action plan, as both procedures were constantly
reviewed along the way and adjusted where necessary.
The progress was smooth again due to constant communication with Michael about the final information
that was required for the document.

4. Evaluate the success or otherwise of the outcomes with reference to the evaluation
methodology described in the plan.

I believe this resource is a great success as is, with the ability to add more information as one feels
necessary.
This resource is designed to be handed out to the students at the start of the school year which means it
has not yet been implemented to the students.
Once it has been implemented, Michael will then have the ability to evaluate the resource and see what
further information can be added or what perhaps isnt necessary.

X Project management This was essential as part of my APC

content was relevant and also the design

X Communicating Constant communicating with Michael via email, text, phone and in person to
ensure this document was laid out and produced to how Michael envisioned it

X Researching Researching was a common task to find the right information for the students
and also to find a way to put it into context that the students would understand

x Reporting This document reports the process and progress of the project

SECTION B: MENTOR TEACHER (FOR ACP) TO COMPLETE

1. Please comment on the professional skills displayed by the pre-service teacher in the
completion of the project [refer to Section A, item 5 above in your response - note that additional space can be
added as required]. Were the expected outcomes, as identified in the ACP Plan, met?

I have mentored a number of pre-service teachers in my time here at Clonard, and Lucy is amongst the most competent and
professional pre-service teachers that I have had.

Her communication with me using a variety of methods (face-to-face, email and phone) was exemplary throughout. From the
framing of the APC project, throughout its development and at its completion, Lucy constantly checked to ensure that the
project met the aims, ways pitched at the right level, and conformed with our idiosyncrasies in teaching some aspects of the
course (i.e. where they were a number of ways to accomplish a task).

In every part of the ACP she worked through methodically and logically keeping me informed of her progress. In some cases,
her research highlighted areas that we could do things more efficiently and effectively and we have integrated them into our
program already. This emphasised the thoroughness and depth of her research and enquiries.

The final product is excellent, and I believe that it will be an excellent resource for our students in the future. It covers the
fundamental skills that students need to learn and demonstrate before going to camp and is pitched at their level of
understanding and experience.
