EXPERIMENT NO. 6
VOLT AMPERE
CHARACTERISTICS OF LONG-
SHUNT COMPOUND MOTOR
Name: BARRUN, BLANCHE A. Rating: ____________
Course & Year: BSME DOP: 08/17/2017
Group: II 1 DOS: 08/31/2017
II. EQUIPMENT
1 Variac Power Supply
1 AC/DC Converter
1 DMM
1 DWM
1 DC Machine (Compound)
16 Connecting Wires Banana Plug (Big Wire)
6 Connecting Wires Alligator Clips (Small Wire)
1 AC Plug with Banana Plug
1 Extension Cord
III. PROCEDURE
1. Connect the circuit shown in Figure 5.1 showing the short-shunt compound
motor.
2. Set the variac power supply into 10 Volt.
3. When the motor is rotating, measure and record the terminal voltage V T = 10V,
the line current IT, the power of the motor PM, and the field current IF.
4. Compute and record the internal resistance of the motor.
5. Repeat procedure No. 2, No. 3 and No. 4, when the variac is set to: 20V, 30V,
40V, 50V, up to 100V.
6. Plot a characteristics graph IT vs VT and VT vs PM.
