Design of Beam:
Assume b= 230mm

4000
d = 12 = 333.33~350mm
(1) Factored Bending moment BM(-ve) =1.5*30.82 = 46.23 KNm
(2) Factored Bending moment BM(+ve) =1.5*17.5 = 26.25 KNm
CASE (1) : Factored BM = Mu (-ve) =46.23 KNm
Assume b = 230mm , fck = 20 N/mm2 , fy = 415 N/mm2
Clear Cover = 25 mm
Effective depth d =D- d-/2
Assume dia of bar =20 mm
46.23106
Mu = 0.138*230*20*d2 d = 0.13820230

d = 269.86 mm
drequired =269.86 mm

dprovided > drequired Hence Ok

Ultimate moment of resistance

Mu, lim = 0.36 fck x b [1-0.42 ] d2

Therefore must be designed on single reinforced of neutral axis

X= = = 119.99 mm

Calculation of Reinforcement

Ast = 409.17 mm2

Limiting depth of neutral axis xm = 0.48d

So the section is under reinforced.

Use 3-16 bar having Ast =603 mm2

Check for minimum tension reinforcement

As per IS 456: 2000, clause 26.5.1.1

For minimum reinforcement =

Ao =

D = 350+25+16/2 = 383mm
Ast,max = 0.04 bD

Check for shear reinforcement

Factored shear stress force Vu =1.5*32.08

Nominal shear stress = = = 0.598 N/mm2

For Is 456:2000 Table 19,

Shear strength for M20 concrete = 0.483 N/mm2

For IS 456:2000 Table 20

, = 2.8 N/mm2
, > >

Provide 2 legged stirrups of 8mm bar having area = 100.48 mm2

The shear that has to be resisted by the vertical stirrups
Vus = Vu - *b*d
= 48.12* 103-0.483*230*350
= 9.22 KN
Now spacing of vertical stirrups
Sv = 0.87* fy*Asv*d/Vus
= 0.87*415*100.48*350/9.22*103
= 774.876 mm
Sv 300 mm
Sv < 0.75*d = 0.75*350 =262.5mm

Therefore provide 2- legged 8 mm vertical stirrups @ 300 mm

c/c up to 2d = 2*350 =700 mm from vertical face of the support

CASE (2):Factored moment B.M = Mu (+ve) = 1.5 x 17.5 KNm =26.25 KNm

CHECK FOR DEFLECTION

Bending moment between BC from B,

EI d2y/dx2= -23x+7.5x2

Bending moment between AB from B,

EI d2y/dx2= -23x+7.5x2+10(x-3)-7.5(x-3)2
Integrating twice with res to x,

EI (y) = -23x3/6+C1x+C2+7.5x4/12+10(x-3)3/6-7.5(x-3)4/24

By applying boundary condition, x=0, y=0 and x=0, dy/dx=0

We get C1=C2=0,

Now the equation becomes,

EI (y) = -23x3/6+7.5x4/12+10(x-3)3/6-7.5(x-3)4/24.

Deflection at 1.53m from B is 3.5mm < 16mm (span/250)

Hence safe
