Science – Physical Geography Unit 5 on Volcanoes

Students will learn the following information about volcanoes:

 certain parts of the earth’s interior
 plate tectonics
 key words and terms related to volcanoes
 volcano types: active, dormant, extinct
 types of volcanic activity
 a list of famous volcanoes and their locations
 benefits and problems surrounding volcanoes (including tsunamis and
earthquakes)
 how to create a volcano at home with baking supplies

At the end of this course, you will…

 know different terms related to volcanoes
 be able to identify on a chart different parts of a volcano and the different parts of
the earth’s interior
 understand the processes behind volcanoes and why they can be both good and
bad

POLICIES AND PROCEDURES

General Rules:
Students are expected to come to class prepared and on time. All students are
expected to participate in class discussions and activities. The use of cell phones and
music devices are not allowed during class time. If the student is absent, she/he must
make plans to meet with the teacher to learn what they have missed.

Grading Policies:
Attendance: 20%
Class participation: 30%
Homework: 25%
Quiz: 25%

Grading Scale:
Students will receive marks for attendance, class participation, homework, and
their quiz.
