5 Statement of Null hypothesis and Alternative
hypothesis

1: Null hypothesis: He will win at least 1000 in this race today.


Alternative hypothesis: He will win less than 1000 in this race today".

2:Null hypothesis: The candidate will get 10 percent majority in


President Election.
Alternate hypothesis: The candidate will get 4-5 percent majority in
President Election.

3: Null hypothesis: Tomato plants do not exhibit a higher rate of growth


when planted in compost rather than soil.
Alternative hypothesis: Tomato plants exhibit a higher rate of growth
when planted in compost rather than in soil.

4: Null Hypothesis: On the average, the dosage sold under this brand is
50 mg (population mean dosage = 50 mg).

Alternative Hypothesis: On the average, the dosage sold under this


brand is not 50 mg (population mean dosage ≠ 50 mg)

5: Null Hypothesis: The world is flat


Alternative Hypothesis: The world is Round.
