Paper Analysis: Closure of Boracay

Boracay in Aklan, Philippinnes is known for its beautiful crystalline water

and fine white sand beaches that makes it one of the best tourist destination
around the world. But today, it’s now a bid dissatisfaction to many people of our
country even our President Rodrigo Duterte recently called Boracay, “cesspool”.
This is because of their improper sewage system that makes the beach dirtier. By
this reason, a 60-day total closure of business establishments in Boracay is being
pushed by Tourism Secretary Wanda Teo and Local Government Secretary
Eduardo Año, who both want it to take place during the rainy season when tourist
arrivals are low.

My insights for this is I think it’s good for the beach to be cleaned up really
well and it is also good for the tourists because they will be able to experience a
new and improved Boracay and they will enjoy it better than before. But for those
people who already booked their plane tickets, hotels/suites and more, it will cause
them inconvenience because they have to rebook to other places because of the
rehabilitation of the said island. It will also cause inconvenience to the workers in
every establishment that will be demolished because they will lose their job and it
will affect their lives.

For me, as a student, I really think that the real problem behind the Closure
of Boracay for its rehabilitation is our ignorance and apathy, as said by our Miss
Earth 2017, Karen Ibasco. If we would just start changing our ways, to start
recalibrating our minds and redirecting our steps, these things would not be a
problem of today and our tomorrow. In just simple things like when you’re in a
beach like Boracay, if you would not throw trash in the coast it would not be a
problem of tomorrow because there would be no more bunch of garbage will be left
on the island. We should really protect our natural parks and tourist attractions
because it is not just for us but for our country’s economy too. So now, let’s accept
the fact that Boracay Island will have a 60-Day closure just for the development so
for us to enjoy it more after it is done on its rehabilitation and clean-up.
