Earthworks – General Excavations

At this paragraph, the requirements concerning the general excavations in the area, prior to the construction of the
general fill, are described.

The general excavation procedure includes the site clearing, including the removal of the vegetation, the unwanted trees
and their roots, the topsoil and top fill material, the unsuitable materials and debris. It includes the permanent and
temporary excavation works in all sort of soils, soft to cemented, according to the dimensions given in the structures
design drawings. The excavations will be made with the use of appropriate machines and tools. Dewatering and control
of the ground water (through the use of the appropriate pumping system) will be executed if required at selected areas
(e.g. basement structures), depending also on the ground water elevation and the climatic conditions. The surface water
will be controlled with specific hydraulic works. The general excavations also include the transportation and the disposal
or storage of the excavation products.

For the safe foundation of the structures and other functional areas of the site the following construction procedure
should be generally used:

- Site Clearing and grubbing together with Vegetation removal including total removal of Layers Ia and Ib, of the
topsoil and inappropriate fill.
- Compaction of the excavated surface to achieve a 95% of maximum dry density according to standard proctor test
after the total removal of the topsoil and inappropriate fill material.
