For the tenth time in South Florida, Black Iron Film Artist Collective and the original One Take Super 8 Event present
the 1:1 Super 8 Cinema Soirée (est. 2006). Twenty(+) filmmakers and artists will load their cameras to take part in
this year’s spectacle, displaying the diversity and creativity of the South Florida super 8 film community.

INFORMATION & HISTORY

The original One Take Super 8 Event was a way to help create more independent films by a variety of artists, while
giving the local community an opportunity to view the films collectively. Using a super 8 camera is centered on the
concept that this type of film, often discarded to antiquity in this digital age, is still an affordable film gauge for
independent filmmakers. In recent years, more attention has been given to this film format, as it once sat on the edge
of extinction. Now it’s effects are seen in Hollywood films, music videos, mobile apps, and mainstream television ads.

Many of the super 8 events, such as this one, are distinct film exhibition, in that none of the films are viewed by the
filmmakers before the screenings. Participants are not allowed to edit or preview their films. What’s filmed in-camera,
is what’s shown. No physical cuts or splices are allowed, and there is no opportunity to make changes. This idea
leads to exciting, refreshing films and a rare opportunity for a public viewing.

Each year the 1:1 Super 8 Cinema Soirée, coordinated by filmmaker and FAU film Professor Shane Christian Eason,
has spawned a cache of great films, holds an impressive festive atmosphere, and continues to have a loyal following.
The popularity of this noncompetitive event has enabled it to return most years with more filmmakers participating.

This year will mark the 1:1 Super 8 Cinema Soirée tenth year in South Florida. It’s quite the milestone and a topic of
discussion among those yearning the sight and smell of super 8 film, and the soothing sound of a super 8 projector.

So grab a camera, get some celluloid, and shoot for this year’s Annual 1:1 Super 8 Cinema Soirée.

INFORMATION | RULES | REGULATIONS
1. The screening is limited to 20 to 24 participants. Additional participants are at the discretion of the exhibition’s
Director. The event will be comprised entirely of new work. No old cartridges or reels will be accepted without prior
knowledge to organizers. The screening is scheduled for approximately 7:00 p.m. Friday, December 7th, 2018. Doors
will open at 6:15 p.m. Its open to the public and donations or a small entry fee will be accepted at the door.
Participating filmmakers and select guests may enter the screening for free.

2. Participating filmmakers are responsible for acquiring their own operational super 8 camera, tripod, lights, and any
other suitable production equipment. You may find working cameras online; friends or family; thrift shops; or estate,
garage, and yard sales. Prices for super 8 cameras are relatively reasonable. However, do the research prior to
purchase. Some cameras can be priced high. Further, be sure the camera, if recently found/purchased, is
mechanically operational. If you haven’t already done so, shoot a test roll with the camera and send it to a film
processing lab. There is nothing worse than burning a roll of film, sending it off to the lab, and having it return with
problems such as light leaks, malfunctioning iris, focus, zoom, shutter, et cetera.

3. You may provide your own cartridge of film, only if it’s one of the stocks listed herein. There is no Kodachrome
available. It’s been discontinued. If you choose to supply your own film cartridge, then you’ll pay a $25 fee for
processing, shipping, transfer, and handling. If you require a full cartridge of super 8 film, you’ll pay a $50 fee for film,
processing, transfer, and handling. All payments must be made in US currency in cash or money order. Films will ship
at one time to the lab. This ensures the entire screening package remains intact until the evening of the screening.

4. All film orders and payments must be received in a timely manner. This ensures that you receive the film promptly
and have time to shoot. Therefore, the filming period begins 10/10/18 and will run through 5 p.m. 11/08/18. All
available film stocks and payment options are listed herein.

5. As this is a special one-of-a-kind event with specific cinematic characteristics that have been imposed since the
inaugural event, there will be NO opportunity to physically edit or preview your film prior to the event screening.
Therefore, plan your shoot, keep notes, and use in-camera editing techniques. What you shoot is what’ll screen!
Remember, a super 8 cartridge is 50 feet (72 frames per foot/3600 frames per roll), is 18 frames per second (filmed
and projected) for real-time movement, and has a run time of 3m20s. Organizers will be adding one title card at the
head of each film with the participant’s name. Therefore, you may want to add 5 seconds to your film’s exhibition run-
time and consider 3m20s + 0m5s for your sound component.

6. All exposed cartridges must be returned on or before 5 p.m. on 11/08/18. The filmmaker’s information sheet and
release form (herein) must be filled accordingly. Films will be sent to the lab the following day. There will be no late
exceptions. Send or drop off exposed cartridges of film to the following address, on or before the deadline:

7. If you want SOUND with your film (which is encouraged) you may provide a live soundtrack at the event or a
prerecorded track to play simultaneously with your film. If a sound track is not supplied, the film will project silent.
Keep in mind that you will not be able to view your film before it’s screened. So, create the soundtrack accordingly.
High quality audio (MP3) is the preferred format. The duration of the sound track should be the same as the super 8
cartridge, 3m20s + 0m5s for a name card we supply. All soundtracks will be collected and situated together on one
source, then cued accordingly to the artist’s film at the screening. If you’re providing live music or performance,
submit a list of what sound requirements are needed. You’re responsible for providing musical instruments, additional
amps, talent, props, etc. Sound check is available 1 hour before the screening. All sound tracks must be submitted by
5 p.m. on 11/29/18. Send audio tracks to the email address listed herein.

As a condition of entering the 1:1 Super 8 Cinema Soirée, I/we hereby certify that:

1. I/we, am/are the sole creators of the film that I/we have submitted to the 1:1 Super 8 Cinema Soirée.

2. I/we, am/are the sole and exclusive owner(s) of all rights thereto and there are no disputes regarding the
ownership of the submission. I/we have full authority to submit the film to the 1:1 Super 8 Cinema Soirée.

3. I/we will indemnify, defend and hold harmless the 1:1 Super 8 Cinema Soirée, its directors, sponsors, individually
and collectively, including their heirs, personal representatives, officers, successors and assigns, from and against all
claims, demands, losses, damages, costs, judgments, liabilities and expenses (including attorney's fees) arising out
of or in connection with any and all claims of third parties, whether or not groundless, based on any film or other
materials submitted to me by the 1:1 Super 8 Cinema Soirée.

4. I/we shall be solely responsible for taking all the necessary steps to establish and protect my/our copyright in the
submitted material, and the 1:1 Super 8 Cinema Soirée shall have no obligation with respect thereto. The 1:1 Super 8
Cinema Soirée shall have the right to reproduce all or part of said material for use in its publicity, archives, website
and any related distributions directly associated to the 1:1 Super 8 Cinema Soirée.

5. I/we hereby grant the 1:1 Super 8 Cinema Soirée the nonexclusive right to use my name, photograph, and likeness
in connection with all publicity and promotional activities regarding the 1:1 Super 8 Cinema Soirée.

6. I/we understand that the 1:1 Super 8 Cinema Soirée will only return films upon written request and is not obligated
to return my film or any others I/we have submitted to the 1:1 Super 8 Cinema Soirée.

7. I/we understand that this is not a competition, that the 1:1 Super 8 Cinema Soirée is a method of offering exposure
and development of films at a subsidized cost to the filmmaker. I/we understand that no guarantees are offered or
implied that suggest that my film will be screened after the 1:1 Super 8 Cinema Soirée through web site and/or public
screenings and/or DVD distribution. Selections for said screenings and distributions are at the sole discretion of the
1:1 Super 8 Cinema Soirée curators, programmers, and directors. All super 8 films may be included on DVD or online
for promotion and/or distribution.

8. I/we hereby agree to abide by the decisions of the 1:1 Super 8 Cinema Soirée organizers in regard to all matters
and decisions, including those decisions involving their sole discretion, relating to the 1:1 Super 8 Cinema Soirée.

9. I/we have read all the festival rules, regulations and releases, understand them, and have complied with them. I/we
understand that failure to adhere to the 1:1 Super 8 Cinema Soirée rules, regulations, and releases will result in
disqualification from screening, web distribution, or any other related festival activities.

10. I/we agree that additional information and/or items may be requested for future documents, screenings, and
events. To assist with curators and programmers, and if the said filmmaker agree’s to all terms listed herein, fill out all
