ISSUE: Effects and Consequences of Eruptions in the City of Baños


INTRODUCTION

The city of Baños belongs to the province of Tungurahua and is


located 45 km from Ambato. It is a very important tourist site in the
country since it offers its visitors a wide range of tourist options.

Baños, is located in the foothills of the Tungurahua volcano also


known as the "mama Tungurahua", is located in the Andes mountain
range 140 kilometers from the city of Quito capital of Ecuador, or 33
kilometers south east of the city of Ambato capital of the province of
Tungurahua, being the tenth highest mountain in the country, has an
altitude of 5,023 meters above sea level.
PROBLEM

The eruption of the Tungurahua volcano, has generated serious


damage to agriculture, livestock, tourism and the health of the
population such as:

 Respiratory problems, conjunctivitis, dermatitis and acute


diarrheal diseases.
 Damage to agriculture, livestock and tourism.
 Damage to the water and sanitation system.
 Decrease in tourism.
SOLUTIONS

 Provide medicines to counteract diseases caused by volcanic


eruptions.
 Increase food supplies for the affected population.
 Deliver food for livestock.
 Promote the tourist places of the city.
RECOMMENDATIONS

 Prepare an emergency kit.


 Prepare an evacuation route.
 Wear clothing that covers the entire body to protect the skin.

PERSONAL RECOMMENDATIONS

 Wear face mask and safety glasses.


 Clean the roofs and channels to prevent the accumulation of
ash.
 Avoid driving.
 Boil the water before ingesting it.
