TEXTILE WALL COVERINGS
1. GENERAL
1.1 Contract Documents
All work of this Section shall comply with the requirements of the Contract Documents for
the Main Building Works, with the Drawings, Schedules and with all other contract
Documents.
1.2 Work Included
1.2.1 Prime Cost Supply rates have been allowed in the Bills of Quantities for fabric wall
coverings.
1.2.2 Install fabric wall coverings, at all locations shown on the Drawings to be selected.
1.3 Related Work Specified Elsewhere

1.4 Quality Assurance
1.4.1 Refer to Section 01 02 10 Reference Standards to comply with the requirement of
the referenced standards
1.5 Submittals
1.5.1 Manufacturer's Literature :
Literature describing each fabric wall covering product and its suitability for the
surface intended shall be submitted. List materials composition of fabric materials
including backing.
1.5.2 Colour Samples :
Submit 600 x 600 mm samples for each type of fabric wall covering in colour
selected.
1.5.3 Sample Panel :
Cover one completed area in colours selected for approval. Workmanship of this
area shall be standard for all other wall covering work.
1.5.4 Certificate of Compliance by Manufacturer :
Certify that wall covering materials meet the Specifications & Local Authorities'
requirements including flame spread ratings. Where product has no available test
data, fabric wall coverings shall receive a flame retardant treatment certified by
the manufacturer as complying with the flame spread requirement.
2. PRODUCTS
2.1 Acceptable Manufacturers
2.1.1 To be selected by the Architect.
2.2 Materials
2.2.1 General :
All fabric wall coverings - See item 1.2.1. Wall fabrics shall achieve Class 1 surface
spread of flame.
2.2.2 Sheet Cork :
Shall be 6 mm thick continuous roll type, fire treated, set with adhesive, Polyvinyl
Acetate.
2.2.3 Mineral fibreboard 20mm thick to wall panel size. (nominal size 960mm x 960mm,
check on Drawings).

2.3 Delivery, Storage & Handling
2.3.1 Delivery :
Deliver all fabric wall-covering materials in factory sealed containers with the label
clearly identifying their contents, and application instructions.
2.3.2 Storage :
All materials used on the job shall be stored in a single place designated by the
Contractor. Such storage place shall be kept neat and clean.
2.3.3 Cleaning :
Before fabric wall covering is started in any area, it shall be broom cleaned and
excessive dust shall be removed. After wall-covering operations begin in a given
area, broom cleaning will not be allowed. Cleaning shall then be done only with
commercial vacuum cleaning equipment.
2.3.4 Lighting :
Adequate illumination shall be provided in all areas where fabric-covering
operations are in progress.
2.3.5 Temperature :
Once work has commenced, provide constant ventilation and temperature of 20oC
or above and prevent variation in temperature which might result in damage to
freshly covered surfaces.
2.3.6 Coordination with other Trades :
This work shall be scheduled and coordinated with other trades and shall not
proceed until other work and/or job conditions are as required to achieve
satisfactory results. The Contractor shall examine the Specifications for the
various other trades and shall thoroughly familiarize himself with all their
provisions regarding wall covering.
2.4 Spare Stock
2.4.1 Prior to the issue of the Completion Certificate by the Architect, deliver 0.3% of
quantity of fabric covering to the Employer at designated locations on the Project
Site, as directed.
3. EXECUTION
3.1 Preparation
3.1.1 Surface Condition :
Before starting any work, surfaces to receive fabric wall covering system shall be
examined carefully for defects which cannot be corrected by the installation
procedures specified by fabric wall covering manufacturer to achieve satisfactory
results. Work shall not proceed until such damages are corrected.
3.1.2 Acceptance of Surfaces :
The commencing of work in a specific area shall be construed as acceptance of
the surfaces and thereafter Contractor shall be fully responsible for satisfactory
work as required herein.
3.1.3 Items Not to be Covered :
Remove or protect handrail, wall plates, lighting fixtures, corner guards, hollow
metal work and other accessories. Upon completion of each space, carefully
replace removed items and restore affected items to their original condition.
3.1.4 Electric Box Covers :

Remove electrical panel box covers and doors before covering wall. Reinstall box
covers after wall covering is complete.
3.1.5 Condition of Surface :
Surfaces shall be clean, dry and adequately protected from dampness. Surface
shall be free of any foreign materials which will adversely affect adhesion or
appearance of applied wall covering.
3.1.6 Mildew :
Shall be removed and the surface neutralized and dried before applying wall
covering.
3.1.7 Efflorescence :
On any area shall be corrected before work may begin.
3.2 Installation
3.2.1 Line walls with 50 mm x 32 mm hardwood impregnated continuous horizontal rails
at (nominal) 800 mm centres to provide secret fix for wall panels.
3.2.2 Allow for trimming and stopping to doorframes electrical panels. Remove
handrails etc. for re-instatement on completion.
3.2.3 Prepare M.D.F. panels to the sizes shown on the Drawings, and apply 6 mm cork
facing, neatly trimmed to match edges of M.D.F. board.
3.2.4 Adhere linen paper to cork facings, allowing sufficient material to be neatly
returned to all edges and glued and stapled to backs of panels.
3.2.5 Supply and fix "lift-on" secret fixings to panels and rails. Offer up panels to walls.
3.2.6 Replace all disturbed electrical switch plates handrails etc.
3.3 Clean-Up & Protection
3.3.1 Clean-Up :
Upon completion of the Work, the Contractor shall remove all adhesive from the
floors, glass and other surfaces. Remove from the premises all rubbish and
accumulated materials of whatever nature, not caused by others, and leave this
part of the work in clean, orderly and acceptable condition.
3.3.2 Protection :
The Contractor shall not only protect his work at all times, but shall also protect all
adjacent work and materials by suitable covering or other method during progress
of this work.
