LESSON PLAN IN SCIENCE V

I. OBJECTIVES

A. Content standard
- Demonstrate understanding of the changes in weather before, during and after
a typhoon.

B. Performance standard
- Is able to apply knowledge of observing the changes in the weather before, during
and after a typhoon in real-life situations.
C. Learning Competencies
- Finds the area of a given circle
Code: M5ME-Iva-74

II. CONTENT
- Weather Disturbances

III. LEARNING RESOURCES

A. REFERENCES

a. Textbooks materials

- Science Beyond Borders

p.180

B. OTHER LEARNING RESOURCES

- metacards,sandtable,strips of paper,pictures

IV. PROCEDURE

A. Reviewing previous lesson

1.Drill
B. Review

Provide each row with words written on meatacards.

Task: Select the metacards where effect of soil erosion are written and post
them on the space provided for your group on the board.

C. Establishing the purpose of the lesson

Present pictures showing before, during and after a typhoon.
Let pupils observe and later infer then tell something about the picture.

D. Presenting Examples

- Present the situation below to the class.

Problem:
One day Alden and his mother went out for a lunch. His mom
told him that she is very hungry and want something to eat. luckily, they
remember their favorite pizzeria restaurant is near their place. While in the
pizzerias they can’t decide what to buy, a one 18” pizza that cost 300 pesos
ortwo 12” pizza that cost 310 pesos. Can you help them decide?

E. Discussing New Concepts #1

What is the problem?

Which will give them more pizza?
Which pizza will cost them less?

F. Discussing New Concepts #2

Strategy: Direct Instruction
The area of a circle can be found by multiplying pi (π= 3.14) by the square of
the radius. The area of circle is the region that is bounded by the
circumference of the circle, it is denote by the capital letter A and its formula
is A= πr²
pi (π) = 3.14

Since the diameter of large pizza is 18 inches, divide 18 inches by 2 to obtain

the radius.
So, 18 inches ÷ 2 = 9 inches
We use formula: A= пr²
A= 3.14 x 9in²
= 3.14 x 81
= 254.47 in²

G. Developing mastery

Let the pupil compute the area of the illustration of 12” pizza.

We use formula: A= πr²

So, 12 inches ÷ 2 = 6 inches
We use formula: A= πr²
A= 3.14 x 6in²
= 3.14 x 36
= 113.10 in²
113.10 x 2
= 226.20 in²

I. Making Generalization
How do we find the area of a circle?
The area of a circle can be found by multiplying pi (π = 3.14) by the square of
the radius.
