1. Would the writer of Reading 1 think that professional eating is
a sport?
No, it wouldn’t. The competition on the reading 1 showed us about how is the Extreme Ironing
sport. So if you see carefully, Iron means some kind of metal. People don’t eat any kind of metal.

2. Sometimes writers let their readers infer or guess part of their


meaning. What connection does the writer want the reader to make
in the quote below?

You might think that professional eaters must look like


sumo wrestlers. They don 't ... What is their secret? Metal
buckets perhaps.

Sumo wrestlers are a kind of sport that, the main resource is to have more and more weight in order
to deal with that sport. Professional eaters look like slim due to the load that they hold on while they
are in a contest.

Finding Main Ideas and Supporting Details
Everyparagraph in a reading should have a main idea. The writer often starts
the paragraph with the main idea. The writer then uses details to explain the
main idea.

Write the main ideas of each paragraph in Reading 1. Then add one
detail from each paragraph.

Main Idea → Combine physical activity and competition.
Detail → Extreme ironing.

According to the writer, the sports ilustred here are, baseball and golf. The other ones are not sports.

2. How did he make his decision?


Because of we are humans being we can be influenced by people. Example Some if we were judges
we could decide our favorite competitor by looking his clothes or based on our opinions. So, the
writer made his decision because we can never be certain that the winner was really the best. So, the
person or team that has more points or finishes first wins.

3. Do all athletes participate in sports?


Yes, they do. Every activities like bowling, Ping-Pong and even curling are sports.

4. Is everyone who participates in a sport an athlete?


No, it isn’t. Like a said before, they are some kind of sport that doesn’t represent as sports. Like
NASCAR F1. This is not a sport.
