BRIEF HISTORY OF FAJR TRAVEL AND TOURS

The company is named Fajr, which derived from Arabic origins, which means Rise.
At Fajr Travel and Tours, we are focused on providing excellent services with the highest levels
of customer satisfaction – we will do everything we can to meet your expectations.

Internship or on the job training is one way by which we students are given an
opportunity to apply the theories and computations that we have learned from school. It also
helps us to obtain applicable knowledge and skills by performing in actual work setting. It is an
opportunity for us to learn new things, acquire new skills, improve our knowledge all about the
tourism field.
A month before OJT, I’m so depressed to find a travel agency. Not only here in Quezon
City but we also try to find travel agencies in Makati, Ortigas and in Monumento. I pass my
resume for the first time in Galactica Travel Inc., and it was located in Legaspi, Makati City but
they just said that they were going to call me about my application. Weeks passed, I'm still
hoping for their calls but one day my friend found a travel agency that was only located nearby
our location. I pass my resume for the second time and finally I’m hired as an OJT trainees. But
before I start I need to pass all of my initial requirements like Endorsement Letter, Memorandum
of Agreement and the Acceptance Letter. Fajr Travel and Tours is a travel agency that offers a
lot of services. This company was owned by a muslim.
April 5, 2017. Welcome to my first day of On the Job Training. Before I start with the
proper training, we renovate our office and clean everything to be presentable for the clients.
After that day, we started our proper training and our General Manager taught us all the things
that we’re going to do day by day. As time goes by, we started different people like janitors,
guards and even sales ladies in different stores. Almost one week when Galactica call me and
asking if I’m able to find another travel agency because they already have trainees. So I said yes
because that’s the truth. After a week our manager taught us how to book flights, domestic and
international and also how to do tour packages in different destinations here in the Philippines.
Our manager gave me a chance to book flight domestic and international but we need to make
sure that we should do it correctly because if not, I am the one who will pay it based on the
system that we are using. Our manager taught us everything that we are going to do for booking
flights. Every details even the smaller things. The difference between MISS and MASTER and
even MR and MRS. Miss if the child is below 12 years old the same with Master. And adult
above 12 years old and the important is Senior Citizen. Because they have a 20% discount but
we need their Id as a Senior Citizen. And the birthday is also important from the system if how

old are they. After that, we need their contact number, email address, insurance if they want and
then proceed to the payment. But before that we need their payment before the final process of
ticketing. And after that process, I need to print their itinerary which is important for them to
travel. And finally, I am able to book flights.
I am able to cope to the different attitude, personality of the client. I am able to
explain what we can offer in a nice way. They are always asking if we have a promo but the truth
is we're just giving them the cheapest price. But another thing is the patience for the clients. I can
say I don’t have any experience to deal with them. But our manager always taught us in dealing
to the different kinds of people. 'Cause in this field it is one of the important matter. Sometimes, I
experience to meet some clients that is lack of knowledge in riding on a plane, they prefer to
ride in a ferry than in a plane. But as a tourism student I'm always referring to them to choose
airplane for them to experience it, and for me this is the easiest way to go to their destinations.
One thing is sometimes the fare of a ferry is much bigger than a plane so I'm convincing them to
choose a plane for them to be comfortable also. It’s been a week since I get comfortable with the
clients. And now, I am able to deal with them and convince them.
We also experience to answer the calls, the emails, and inquiries. Our company offers
Hotel and Resort Booking, Airlines for Domestic and International Tickets, Bus Tickets, Tour
Packages, Visa Processing, Passport Assistance, Birth and Marriage Certificate (Cenomar),
Online Application such as: NBI, Philhealth, Pagibig. And also wedding, debut, birthday
coverage, business card, invitation card, load: mobile, gamecard, datacard and satellite. We have
a 2017 packages promo for any destinations such as Palawan, Boracay, Bohol, and Cebu. And
for Joiners Tour Packages are Tanay, Hundred Islands, Baguio, Anawangin, Borawan, Bolinao,
Sagada, Banaue, Ilocos and many more. I am able to explain to the clients what are the rates,
inclusions, itineraries to our different tour packages We also find the Hotel for the client and it
depends for how many they are. In Fajr, we are three students and our boss decided to choose
one who will be responsible in handling the system in each day for us to experience it and know
what we are going to do in booking flights. We are lucky because of that experience, we can
improve our self for being responsible to that system. Sometimes we have many clients but
sometimes we don’t have.

Our manager also taught us that being early all the time is important, it is a practice if you
want to become a professional. Because someday, I’m going to meet new people and that time
we are professionals. He also give us some advice that our personality or attitude is important all
the time. I really want to thank him for being a good instructor or should I say a second father of
mine. He’s really awesome for everything. He knows everything that I don’t really know. Our
manager gave us some advices that for me are really helpful. He is always saying that all things
in the world should give importance not only the big things. It is a training for us to cope for the
different happenings in our life. You don’t know how lucky I am to be part of on the job training
here in Fajr Travel and Tours. He said that we don’t meet each other accidentally because for
him it is already planned, and I believed that cause I am able to learned new things because of
him.
When we are not doing anything we feel like boring, when we don’t have a client our
manager taught us about Arabic lesson again and again. Aside from that, the most important is he
taught us how to read and how to write Arabic. Starts from lesson one, which is alphabet. Lesson
two is vowels. As a tourism student it a great opportunity to learn the basic reading and writing
in Arabic. After 4 weeks, we can read and write Arabic words we can also count 1-10 using
Arabic. And also how to pronounce Arabic alphabet. The basic reading and writing in Arabic is
not easy but if you really want to learn you need to practice yourself and exercise in reading and
writing it. Emirates Airlines, Etihad Airways and Qatar airways are one of the biggest Airlines
all over the world and the times that they will going to hire flight attendants and it can be your
advantage compare to other applicants because of that knowledge. We just want to say thank you
to our boss because we have a lot of things to be thankful for. There is a lot of experiences that
we’ve learned and we will use it for our future as a tourism professional.Since our boss is a
Muslim, he is always discussing with us about them. I am able to understand the duties and
responsibilities of Muslim about their beliefs, about their culture and more. They pray five times
a day. Nice to hear that right? And I already know about RAMADAN, and about their fasting.
He told us everything about Islam. I just mention above that he teach us Arabic lesson because
he wants us to be able to read their Qur'an. Such a great pleasure to hear all about their beliefs, it
make us think of the different thing that are existing that all came from our Creator.

Until the day that our head of tourism management said that we need to finish our 400
hours OJT in May 28. So we decided to out at exactly 8pm. And start at exactly 10:00am. So our
schedule is 10:00AM-8:00PM from Monday to Sunday. So that I am able to finish this training
on May 27. I have three absences because I have an emergency to go to. But last May 22 is our
enrollment and we need to go to school again for the second time. Another absent again. But I
know that me and my co-trainees are lucky cause we are able to finish it before the start of the
class and we can still experience vacation for two weeks. We're so happy for that.
As of now I want to thank all the people that helps me to finish all the things that I need
to do in this OJT, especially our General Manager, Mrs. Justerini Amarille, our second manager,
Sir. Issa Ilustracion for the new learnings, knowledge, ideas that you've taught us. It's a great
pleasure to be part of this company.To my co-trainees and also all of the people that helps us in
our everyday doings in our office. To the client, I also want to thank you for the trust and
experience that you've given to us.
Fajr Travel and Tours help us to improve our confidence as a tourism student. We can
never forget our experiences, new knowledge, and learnings. It really help us a lot. I wish that I
am able to help them too. STI can have a partnership with FAJR TRAVEL AND TOURS
because this company can really help students to improve themselves and get ready for their
future profession. They can visit this office, located at 2nd Floor Nova Mall, Quirino Highway,
Novaliches, Quezon City.

NEW KNOWLEDGE, ATTITUDES, AND SKILLS ACQUIRED

In these on-the-job training, there's a lot of new things I've learned. How to do tour
packages that is in favor to the needs and wants of the clients for us to satisfy them. I am able to
know also how to find suppliers or partners in this business that is also able to make our clents
happy. I also learned to manage our booking system. We are able to use it for the different
inquiries of the clients.
Attitudes is one of the most important in this field because you are dealing with a lot of
people. I've learned how to cope to the different attitudes and kind of people, for me to answer
and explain well all about their inquiries and for me to convince them to get our service.
One of the skill I acquired in this training is the basic reading and writing Arabic. Me and
my co-OJT's are so lucky to have a knowledge about this 'cause it can be our edge for the other
applicants that is also want to work to the big three airlines in UAE.

THEORIES ACTUALLY SEEN IN PRACTICE

I learned how to do tour costing during class but seriously I'm not able to understand it
clearly, but during this OJT I totally understand how to do it. Also the different tour packages, in
having contracted published rate. Since I also have a background in using MS Excel, but because
of this OJT. I am able to deepen my knowledge in using it.

FEEDBACK THAT CAN BE GIVEN TO THE COMPANY OR INSTITUTION:

Fajr Travel and Tours really helps us a lot to become a better person. They are always
ready to teach all the OJT students that are wanting to learn all about this field. I know that all of
the new knowledge that we’ve learned here, are all the things that we can we use in the future.

BENEFITS GAINED:

I am now capable of understanding this kind of matters which has a big relation to mine,
and result for giving me a more precise knowledge all about this industry.

PROBLEMS ENCOUNTERED:

Ms. Jenny Capito was planning to have a trip in Hong kong, but on the day of her flight
he got denied to the immigration. She wants to rebook her flight but the problems is, the
rebooking charge of the airlines is much higher that the price of her plane ticket back and forth.
She also want to re-route his ticket but according to the airlines, it is not applicable. One of the
problems that our travel agency also encountered was the happenings in Marawi City. We have
many clients that have a booking during that incident but because of that happenings there are lot
of client want to rebook or refund their flights. At first we don’t know what to do, ‘cause we’re
still waiting for the statement of the airlines. When they had their statement it is easy for us to
explain to the clients what are the policies and decisions of the airlines about those happenings.
