Conic sections: Equations of Ellipses
Objective: I will be able to graph ellipses given in
standard form
Q.6 Ellipses
What in the world is an ELLIPSE??
Q.6 Ellipses
Standard form equation for an Ellipse:
The center is still located at the point (h,k)!
Q.6 Ellipses
a = x‐axis distance from center (radius)
b = y‐axis distance from center (radius)
The major and minor axes of an ellipse
are diameters (lines through the center) of the ellipse.
The major axis is the longest diameter and the minor axis the shortest.
If they are equal in length then the ellipse is a circle.
