GMC HSE PROCEDURE FOR OFFLOADING MATERIALS
The information contained in this document is relevant to
both spotters and haulage truck drivers before, during and
1. Scope after tipping activities at the dump sites
4. Practice Set up work areas and clearly indicate entry and exit
points, so that drivers are able to pull through always
instead of backing.
Ensure all drivers ready to offload manganese at the
dump-site have their seatbelts readily fastened.
Once a truck is positioned at the dump-site ready to
offload; drivers must conduct quick checks around the
dumping area to ensure no person, vehicles, or
materials are in your blind spots.
Spotters need to stay out of blind spots as well as away
from the truck in case of tip over.
Truck drivers must always ensure a positive
communication with site spotters using the approved
GMC hand signals as captured in the pictogram in the
appendix one.
NOTE: Under no circumstance must a driver attempt to
offload without the express permission of the dedicated site
spotter.
Always dump on flat even ground. After the load is
dumped pull up just enough to clear the load and put
the bed down before driving off. Leaving the bed up
while driving can result in contact with electrical lines
as well as tip over.
