Student Response and Assessment Tools

Lesson Idea Name: Producers, Consumers, Decomposers

Content Area: Science
Grade Level(s): 4th
Content Standard Addressed: S4L1. Obtain, evaluate, and communicate information about the roles of
organisms and the flow of energy within an ecosystem.

Technology Standard Addressed: 3- Knowledge Constructor

Selected Technology Tool:

☐ Socrative ☐ iRespond ☐ Quizlet ☐ Plickers ☒ Kahoot! ☐ Office365 Forms
☐ Other:
URL(s) to support the lesson (if applicable):

Technology that student will use to respond to questions/prompts:

☒ Computer ☐ Hand-held student response system (like iRespond) ☐ Phone ☒ Tablet (such as iPad)
☐ Other wireless device (such as iPod Touch)
Type of session:
☒ Teacher-Paced ☐ Student-Paced
Bloom’s Taxonomy Level(s):

Universal Design for Learning (UDL):

Engagement: Students are using technology, which most if not all students like to use technology in the
classroom
Representation: The questions within the Kahoot are picture and word based. The teacher will also auditorily
say every question as they appear.
Action and Expression: Students are able to choose their own answers, while remaining anonymous towards
if they go the correct answer or not.

Describe the instructional activities that will occur PRIOR to the SRT activity and how you will introduce
the SRT activity.
The unit will be taught before the SRT activity. This lesson is a review and check for understanding before
moving on in the content. To introduce the SRT activity, I will tell the students it is a review for the upcoming
test on the content area. It will not be graded but used to see where students are in regards to their
knowledge about the content area.
Describe the purpose of the SRT activity (check all that apply):
☐ Assess prior knowledge ☐ Anticipatory set (Create interest in a topic) ☐ To illuminate common
misconceptions ☒ Formative assessment of content knowledge (for purpose of differentiation and
mastery for ALL students) ☐ Summative assessment of content knowledge ☒ Test preparation
☐ Survey/Poll ☐ Discussion starter ☐ “Homework” collection ☐ Other (please explain):

Briefly describe what will happen DURING the SRT activity:

If allowed all students will have their own piece of technology, whether that is a computer or a tablet device.
The teacher will have the Kahoot on the board with the game pin displayed for the students to type in. Once

all students have logged in, the teacher will begin the game. During the game, the teacher will go over each
question, and explain why the answer is correct or incorrect. The activity should last as long as the content
area block.

Type of questions/prompts used in this activity (check all that apply):

☒ Multiple choice ☐ Multiple select ☒ True/False ☐ Yes/No
☐ Short open-ended response or fill-in the blank ☐ Longer open-ended response

If you are unable to provide a working sample of your questions, please list them below (8-10):

Right/Wrong answers: Will there be right/wrong answers to these questions?

☒ Yes ☐ No
☐ Mixed (Some will have correct answers, other will not.)
Immediate corrective feedback: Will you pre-select correct answers to some of all of the questions and
display correct response to the class after the SRT activity?
☒ Yes
☐ No
Why or why not?
Yes because the student response tool makes the teacher pick the correct answer (s).
Describe what will happen AFTER the SRT activity?
After the SRT activity, the teacher will use the results as a formative assessment to check for students’
understanding towards the content. The students will use the SRT as a basis to start their studying for the
summative assessment.
How will the data be used?
As a result of the SRT activity, the teacher will be able to tell what students need additional instruction and
what areas they are comfortable with before the summative assessment. The data collected from the SRT
activity will not be shared with anyone, it is only for the teacher to see and review for the next lesson or
assignment.

Describe your personal learning goal for this activity.

My personal learning goal is to get students engaged with technology in a classroom setting. Students are
able to have a friendly game, while reviewing at the same time.

Reflective Practice:
After designing the lesson, I would have switched up the type of questions to create more higher-order
thinking questions. This will make students think deeper and test their understanding of the topic. I would
benefit students to see what areas they need to study before an upcoming test. It would build their self-
assessing skills, especially as fourth graders.
