Student Response and Assessment Tools

Lesson Idea Name: Place Value Time

Content Area: Math
Grade Level(s): 2nd
Content Standard Addressed: MGSE2.NBT.1: Understand that the three digits of a three-digit
number represent amounts of hundreds, tens, and ones; e.g., 706 equals 7 hundreds, 0 tens, and 6
ones.

Technology Standard Addressed: Empowered Learner 1c: Students use technology to seek
feedback that informs and improves their practice and to demonstrate their learning in a variety of
ways.

Selected Technology Tool:

☐ Socrative ☐ iRespond ☐ Quizlet ☐ Plickers ☒ Kahoot! ☐ Office365 Forms
☐ Other:

Technology that student will use to respond to questions/prompts:

☒ Computer ☐ Hand-held student response system (like iRespond) ☐ Phone ☒ Tablet (such
as iPad)
☐ Other wireless device (such as iPod Touch)
Type of session:
☒ Teacher-Paced ☐ Student-Paced
Bloom’s Taxonomy Level(s):
☒ Remembering ☒ Understanding ☐ Applying ☐ Analyzing ☐ Evaluating ☐
Creating
Levels of Technology Integration:
☒ Infusion Level: Students may work at a higher Bloom’s Level, but they do not have any “Voice
or Choice” during the activity and most of the decisions are made by the teacher.

☐ Integration Level: We would like to see ALL lessons/activities reach this level. The project is
student-driven. Students have “Voice and Choice” in the activities, selecting the topic of study and
determining the technology tool to demonstrate mastery of the standard. The teacher becomes
more of a facilitator.

☐ Expansion Level: The projects created are shared outside of the classroom, publishing student
work and promoting authorship. This could be reached by showcasing the project on the school’s
morning newscast, posting the project to the classroom blog, or publishing via an outside source.

Describe the instructional activities that will occur PRIOR to the SRT activity and how you will
introduce the SRT activity.
- Before this SRT activity, I will review the previous Place Value lesson from a “previous day”.
Within this review, I will be sure to review a place value chart and give an example. After
reviewing, I will introduce this activity by stating that students will demonstrate their learning
so far with Kahoot. I will be sure to let students know that this will not be graded, but only to

see where there understanding of place value is at.

Describe the purpose of the SRT activity (check all that apply):
☒ Assess prior knowledge ☐ Anticipatory set (Create interest in a topic) ☒ To illuminate
common misconceptions ☒ Formative assessment of content knowledge (for purpose of
differentiation and mastery for ALL students) ☐ Summative assessment of content knowledge
☐ Test preparation
☐ Survey/Poll ☐ Discussion starter ☐ “Homework” collection ☐ Other (please explain):

Briefly describe what will happen DURING the SRT activity:

- During the SRT activity, students will be sitting at their desks while completing the formative
assessment. The students will have whiteboards and a marker to work out the problem if
needed. Along with that, students will have a tablet or computer in order to participate in the
Kahoot. Students will be expected to work independently, try their best, and have fun. I will be
walking around observing students and monitoring the computer to keep the quiz going. I
expect that this SRT activity will last around 15 minutes.
Type of questions/prompts used in this activity (check all that apply):
☒ Multiple choice ☐ Multiple select ☒ True/False ☐ Yes/No
☐ Short open-ended response or fill-in the blank ☐ Longer open-ended response

If you are unable to provide a working sample of your questions, please list them below (8-10):

Right/Wrong answers: Will there be right/wrong answers to these questions?

☒ Yes ☐ No
☐ Mixed (Some will have correct answers, other will not.)
Immediate corrective feedback: Will you pre-select correct answers to some of all of the questions
and display correct response to the class after the SRT activity?
☒ Yes
☐ No
Why or why not?
- I will go over the correct answers after the Kahoot so that students can see where they went
wrong with it and ask questions.

Describe what will happen AFTER the SRT activity? After the SRT activity, I will bring the whole
class to the front to discuss the correct answers and address any misconceptions the students may
have. I will invite students to ask as many questions as needed and allow students to come up to the
board to solve the problems and demonstrate the answer to their classmates.

How will the data be used? This data will be used by me to determine which students will be
together during small group activities in math. The students who struggled the most will be working
on and off with me during math instruction. Along with that, I will analyze the data to provide
differentiation among my students. For example, providing extra scaffolding with more manipulatives
and extra time on assignments/tests. With that being said, I will share this information with my
students’ parents and provide extra practice for home.
Describe your personal learning goal for this activity: From this SRT activity, I hope that students
feel engaged and motivated to do well. I feel that Kahoot is a great and fun alternative to a worksheet

with paper and pencil. I strongly believe that students will benefit from this practice as they will be
able to pick true/false or pick from 4 choices. With that being said, it is important to note that students
are free to solve and show their thinking using their whiteboard. Personally, I hope to learn what my
students are struggling with and need further instruction on. If I find that most of my students need
further instruction, I will spend more time on this topic.
Reflective Practice: This SRT activity impacts student learning because Kahoot increases motivation
and allows for more engaged students. Students have fun because it is a laid-back, competitive
environment in which they get to interact with their classmates. To further extend this lesson with
more technology, I can invite students to play the math simulation game, Prodigy, in order to get more
practice.
