Trainee: Sabha Topic or Theme: Fractions on a number line.

Class: Grade 3 Date & Duration: March 21, 2019

Trainee Personal Goals

I am working on: time management by give the students for each part of the lesson 15 minute.
Then the teacher will clap and the student's clap after the teacher to stop working.

Lesson Focus

Fractions on a number line.

Lesson Outcomes

Students will be able to use the fractions on a number line to represent numbers and their parts.

Links to Prior Learning

In Grade 2, students sorted a collection of money into different denominations, counted the
groups and found the total amount. They only did this for 1 AED coins and a variety of UAE
notes. In Grade 3, students have been introduced to one half and one quarter in their fractions
work and so they are ready to use 50 fils and 25 fils when determining the total amount.

TASKS/ACTIVITIES
Resources Introduction
& Time
 In the beginning, the teacher will check the students’ prior knowledge
by show them a card has pictures with the fraction.
 The teacher will ask the students randomly about the card. What do we
call this?
 The teacher will choose one student randomly.
 The student will answer to the teacher.
 The teacher will ask the students which one is Denominator? and
which one is Numerator?

Resources Main activities

& Time
 The teacher will model the lesson by using PowerPoint slides on the
smartboard.
 The first slide will be the topic of the lesson “Fractions on a number
line.”
 The next slide will be an example to show the students how to make a
Fractions on a number line.
 The example will be a number line with missing Fractions and we
should make the fraction. After that the teacher will say now who can
find the answer. she will choose a student randomly and make him
solve it by count and make the fraction.
Differentiation activities (Support)

Emergent activity:

In this activity, students will work individually. They will need more guidance to do this
activity. The teacher will give them a worksheet including a number line with shading of most
parts. The teacher asks the students first, counting the whole parts in the number line to get the
Denominator. Second, they count the colored parts to get the Numerator. finally, they write the
fraction.

Development Activity:

In this activity, students will work individually. The teacher will give them the instruction to
solve this activity. First, she will give them worksheet including number line with missing some
fractions. Second, the student must start counting the whole parts in the number line to get the
Denominator then show which fractions are missing to get the Numerator. Finally, they write
the fraction missing.

Master activity:

In this activity, students will work in the group the teacher will give them a set of a card
includes the number line. The student must identify the fraction shown on the number line and
write it the fractions on the cards by using a marker pen. Then students do another card until
finish all the cards.

Plenary/Conclusion

The teacher will create a number line on the floor without fractions. The
Resources teacher will have a signal on the form of a star. The teacher will put the star on
& Time one of the parts in the number line. The teacher will randomly select the
students to write the fraction on the white board according to the place of the
star.
