Introduction

Why some of us did bad at certain subjects and some are so slow in class but get high

score? That’s because each of us have different learning preferences and process new

informations differently. These unique styles were developed by each person differently

throughout their experiences. These development processes interests me greatly. Such

that, this paper is aiming to investigate how different individual's interests are related to

their skills and preferences of learning environments by looking at the methodology,

following by the discussions and findings from the data collected and lastly the

conclusion of this research.

Methodology

In this section, we’ll be looking into the method of my researching and the data

collection. I gathering the existing studies and theories on my topic and collected new

data through a survey. The studies, theories and existing data that are used in this

paper are found on the internet as they’re reliable, analysed and proven. For the survey,

I’ve made an online Google Form. (appendix A) The first two questions were to gain

some basic information about the participants, and asking about the subject that they’re

interested in. I wanted to discover how the different individual interests are related to

their skills and preferences of learning environments. I have done researches about the

multiple intelligences and learned about each intelligences through the articles online,

“What is your Intelligence Type?” (Kayleigh, 2017). and the articles “Learning Styles and

Multiple Intelligences” (QuinStreet, Inc., n.d.). I also learned about the preferences of

learning styles from the article “Learning Styles” (2U Inc., n.d.) and the articles

“Learning Styles” (Time4Learning, Inc., n.d.) The participants were a range of teenagers

of students from various schools and different genders. (appendix B) I had 21 responses

and i got these by sharing this survey into social media. (appendix A) I asked different

4
questions to get to knows about their preferences of learning environment including their

personal opinions. (appendix G). My questions also include asking about one’s multiple

intelligences. (appendix H). Once I had collected all my data and read many related

articles, I began the process of analysing the results and data that were shown. I will

now investigate these results in the next part.

Findings and Discussions

This section will be showing the analysis of the received responses from the survey and

how it can be related with the based informations. It has shown that in general, the

reason people are interested in each subjects came from how well they can perform or

they are fascinated by the contents. One of the recognizable point can be seen in from

the survey is that there are two types of responses, detailed responses and short

responses (appendix E). For those people who gave detailed answers informations, they

have either have intrapersonal, interpersonal intelligences or both. This suggests that

they are thoughtful people and have answered the survey considerately, hence the data

came from the detailed group are more reliable. Moving on, looking at the data collected

says that, those who has the musical intelligence tend to be interested in music subjects

and are skilled in listening. (appendix C). They prefer studying while listening to music

and alone (appendix C). They are likely to have trouble with their own concentration

easily get distracted by music. (appendix C) Those who has the Logical intelligence are

interested in at least one of the major subjects and tend to easily get distracted by their

own concentration. (appendix D). For thoses who have spatial, naturalist or both

intelligences tend to have problems with their own mind and prefer to study alone. This

relates to the fact that naturalist tend to be able to notice every little thing around them

while the spatial can create image in their mind. This indicate that they prefer to be in

quiet place to work effectively. (appendix F) These informations had pointed out that

even though they’re passionate or skilled in their particular interest, it doesn’t mean

they can learn effectively as they can still get distracted by it.

5
Conclusion

Each person has different intelligences. These factors are connected to their the

uniqueness of development. As can be seen from all the researching, each group of

intelligence has different skills and perks which indicates different preferences toward

their learning environment. Their interest can be both beneficial and unrewarding, as a

result, choosing a suitable environment for studying is as important as knowing one's

own interests.
