Detailed Lesson Plan in Mathematics 9
.
I.Objectives

At the end of the lesson, the students will be able to:

1.To translate into variation statement a relationship involving joint variation
between to quantities given by a mathematical equation.
2. To illustrates situations that involve joint variation, equation and vise versa.
3. To solve problem involving joint variation.

II.Subject Matter

A.Topic: Joint Variation

B. Reference: Mathematics Learner’s Material 9 pp 215-219
C. Materials: Mark pen, Cartolina, and visual aid

III.Procedure:

Teacher’s Activity Student’s Activity

A. Preliminary Activity
”Good morning Class” “Good morning Maám

Everybody Stand, Let us pray first Yes maám

Sherlyn kindly lead the prayer. (all student stand) in the name of the
Father, in of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit
Amen. Our Father Who Art in
Heaven,....Amen

Ms.Secretary me I know who are the Maám everybody’s present. No one is

absent for to day? absent.

Ok! Very Good, clap your hands (clapping their hands)

everybody.

B.Motivation/Review
What is our lesson yesterday class?
Ok, Rhonamae Our lesson yesterday is all about inverse
variation.

Very Good! So who can explain what (shelamae raising her hand) maám,
is inverse variation?

Yes, Shelamae Inverse variation occurs whenever a

situation produces pairs of numbers whose
product is constant. For two quantities x
and y an increase in x causes a decrease in
y. We can say that y varies inversely as x or
y=k/x.

Very Good!
We can say that y or x varies inversely as x K is the constant of variation.
or y or y=k/x, then what is k ?

Yes Very good.

So at this point I want you to group

yourselves into four members each group
according to your seats only. In your group
select a teacher, one is the leader and the
others are the member.what you have to do
is, you will find or solve the number of the
teacher. I have here a problem on the
board,to find the number of the teacher you
will multiply the number of the members,
then the number will divide to the product
of the member.Again to find the number of
the teacher, you will multiply the number
of the members, then the number of the
teacher divide to the product of the
member.

Class, If I will say Am I understood

Class, you will say “ohh yea”louder.
If I will say are you ready class you will
say “No Maa’m” it means you are ready.
But if you will say “yes Maa’m” it means
you are not ready.
And if I will say “ok” you will say “all
right”.
Am I understood class? Ohh yeahh!!!!

Are you ready class? No Maa’m!!

Ok!!! The first group to solve, will stand

directly then the teacher of the group will
explain where or how did they get their
number.

Ok!!! All right!!

Her is the Problem:

Last December 2016 during our Christmas
Party as a leader I received a gift with
anumber of 36, Shirlyn received 3 anumber
of gift and Sheilla mae received 4 a number
of gift.
What is the number of gift our teacher (Students doing the activity)
received?

(Joel’s group stands directly, Joel as a

teacher)
The number of gift the teacher received is
3. To get the number of gift of the teacher
have is to divide the number of the leader
which is 36 to 12 which is the product of
the number of the member.

OK; Very good,

Clap your hands to joel’s group. (Students clapping their hands)

Ok!!! Alright!!!

So, if I will make a small letter a the

number of the teacher, then b and c the
member, what do you call the number of
the teacher? (Jill raising her hand)

Yes Jill? Constant of variation or the k.

Yes, very good.

Base on the given who can write that into a (Ana marie raise her hand)
complete form on the board.

Yes ana marie? k=a/bc

Very Good!
Who wants to read what Ana marie’s (Zddy raise his hand)
written on the board?

Yes Zeddy? k equals to a varies b and c.

Ok! Thats good, who wants to read again?

Look at b and c is it seperate or joint? Joint Maa’m

OK, how to read that?

Yes, Ranelyn K equals to a varies jointly b and c.

Yes very good thats corrrect.

C.Lesson Proper
1. Activities
So class, the statement “a varies joint a as
b and c” means a=kbc, or k=a/bc, where k
is the constant of variation this is what we
call joint varaition.
I have here example on the board.
1.) Find the equation of variation where a
varies jointly as b and c, and a=80 when
b=5 and c=4.
Solution:
a=kbc or k=a/bc

The first thing to do is you need to

substitute the value of a,b and c.

What is the value of a,b and c? a=80, b=5, c=4

Ok! a=kbc
80=k(5)(4)
k=80/20
k=40

Therefore, the required equation of

variation is a=3bc

2.Z varies jointly as x and y. If z=16 when

x=4 and y=6, find the constant of variation
and the equation of the relation.

Solution:
z=kxy
What is the value of z class? 16
What about x and y? x=4 and y=6
Ok
16=k(4)(6)

z=2/3 xy

Oh yeah!
All right!
k=16/24
k=2/3

So what is the equation of variation?

Very good!

Am I understood class?
Ok!

2.Application
In the same group while ago, I want you to
answer this, who is the filipino Inventor?

All right!

(doing the activity)

Maám! (Jonalyn’s group raise their hands)

Answer: ___ ___ ___ ___ ___ ___
1 2 3 4 5 6

HUENDA

Oh yeahh!

Jointly Variation, The statement”

a varries jointly as b and c” means a=kbc or
k=a/bc, Where k is the constant of
variation. For example if a varries jointly as
b and c , and a= 10 when b is 5 and c=1, the
value of k is 1 because k=a/bc so, the value
of a is 10 divide b times c which is 10 also.
And therefore, yhe required variation is
a=1bc.
He is a Filipino mathematician who
developed a boared game called
DAMATH. The board game applies the All Right!
moves used in the Filipino board game
Dama to sove problems on the different No Maám!
concepts in mathemetics.Who is he? To
find out, match the letter that corresponds Oh Yeahh
to the answer to the numbered item on the
box.The letters will spell out the name of
the Filipino Mathematician.

“z varries jointly as x and y”

1. Translate into variation statement
2. If z=36 when x=3 and y=2,find k.
3. X is 4 when y=3 and z=2. What z if x=8
and y=6.

The area of a of a triangle varries jointly as

its base b and height h.
4. Express the relation as a variation
statement.
5. If the area is 15 cm2,when the base is 5
cm and the height is 6 cm, find k.
6. If a= 65 cm2 ,when b=10 cm and h= 13
cm, find a when b=8 cm and h= 11cm.

E8
B a=kb/h
D 1/2
F z=kx/y
U6
N a=kbh
A 44cm2
H z= kxy

Answer: ____ ___ ___ ___ ___ ___

1 2 3 4 5 6

The first group to answer, will amnswer it

on the board.

Ok!

Start now!

Ok, Jonalyn, on the board

Ok, Very Good! The answer is correct.

Am I understood Class?
3.Generalization
I know you’ve learn a lot from today’s
discussion,so, can summarize the lesson?

Yes, Sherlyn.

Very Good!

OK!

Do you have any questions, clarrifications?

Am I Understood?

D.Evaluation
