12. Explain why the food pyramid is shaped the way that it is. Explain both
the Triangular shape of the pyramid as a whole, AND why the food
categories are shown as different sized wedges of the pyramid.
The pyramid shape indicates that people eat different amounts of food.
The smaller top would represent smaller quantities of food being eaten
on a daily basis, and the larger bottom would represent larger amounts of
food being eaten. The different size wedges represent the amount of
each type of food group that should be eaten. For example, people at
the bottom (who eat large amounts of food) should be eating more grains
than people at the top (who eat less), but by percentage, the amount of
each food group that you eat should be the same, regardless of what your
total dietary intake is.
