COMMENDING SAMAHAN NG MGA MANGINGISDA NG PURO SINALIKWAY (SAMAPUSI INC.) FOR WINNING
THE SARINGAYA AWARD -CIVIL SOCIETY CATEGORY, GIVEN BY THE DEPARTMENT OF ENVIRONMENT AND
NATURAL RESOURCES (DENR)-REGION V HELD ON JUNE 29, 2018 AT LEGAZPI CITY

WHEREAS, the Saringaya Award is the highest regional environmental award given by the Department of Environment
and Natural Resources (DENR);

WHEREAS, said award recognizes individuals, civil society organizations, Civil Society Organizations (CSO’s), industries,
state, colleges and universities, State Universities and Colleges (SUC’s), and local government units (LGU’s)
whose contributions to the environment have inspired the people and their communities to become
vanguards of the environment that provide assistance to the DENR in carrying out its mandate through their
initiatives and advocacies and the institution of core values such as transparency, accountability and the rule
of law;

WHEREAS, Samahan ng mga Mangingisda ng Puro Sinalikway (SAMAPUSI, Inc.), is non-stock and non-profit
association and is registered with the Security and Exchange Commission since August 2008; and is one of
the active and duly accredited people’s organizations in the City of Masbate;

WHEREAS, among SAMAPUSI’s objectives are to have a strong and progressive fishermen association; to improve the
quality of life and promote unity and self-esteem and respect among members and community as a whole;

WHEREAS, the main advocacy of the organization is the protection of environment and management of fishery and
coastal resources in the municipal waters of Masbate City;

WHEREAS, the DENR duly recognized SAMAPUSI’s efforts and best practices in managing the Buntod Reef Marine
Sanctuary and Sandbar in terms of protection, conservation, rehabilitation, sustainability, social relevance
and environmental impact;

WHEREAS, on June 29, 2018, at Casablanca Convention Center in Legazpi City, SAMAPUSI, Inc. is awarded of an
institutional award from the DENR, known as “Saringaya Award for Civil Society Category”;

NOW THEREFORE, on motion of the Hon. Rosemarie V. Salvacion, duly seconded and concurred by all the members
present, BE IT:

RESOLVED , as it is hereby resolved, to commend Samahan ng mga Mangingisda ng Puro Sinalikway (SAMAPUSI, Inc.)
for winning the Saringaya Award-Civil Society Category given by the Department of Environment and Natural
Resources (DENR) Region V, held on June 29, 2018 at Legazpi City;

RESOLVED FINALLY, to furnish copy of this resolution to the Samahan ng mga Mangingisda ng Puro Sinalikway
(SAMAPUSI, Inc.), Department of Environment and Natural Resources (Region V), Office of the City Mayor
and all other concerned, for information and appropriate action.
