INTRODUCTION

This chapter contains the Background of the Study, the Significance of the

Study, Scope and Delimitation, Significance of the Study, Legal Basis

BACKGROUND OF THE STUDY

One of the problems of San Isidro National High School is the plants and

vegetables that are planted to the garden. The soil in the garden is lack of the nutrients

that the plant needs that’s why the plants and vegetables that are planted in the garden

can’t gain enough the right nutrients that it needs.

Every year there is a program called “Gulayan sa Paaralan” that San Isidro

National High School was one of the constant, the school garden is having a hard time to

produce a healthy vegetables and plants because of the problem. Then the researcher’s

finds out that the rabbit manure is an easy process and ideal organic fertilizer for garden

plants and crops, Then the researcher came up with the idea of creating something that

will help school on this problem. The idea of designing a rabbit hutch with effective

collector of manure is build up to researcher’s mind.

As the researcher’s belong to Drafting class which involves in making technical

drawings for architecture, engineering, or manufacturing and of one the skills that they

have is designing. The Design is a creation of a plan or convention for the construction of

1
an object system or measurable human interaction. Designing often necessitates

considering the aesthetic, functional, economic and socio-political dimensions of both the

design object and design process. It may involve considerable research, thought,

modelling, interactive adjustment, and re-design.

As a drafting students we will integrate our skills in making Designed Rabbit Hutch

with Effective Collector of Manure that will make easy or fastest way of collecting the

manure of rabbit that will produce organic fertilizer for school.

Organic fertilizers differ from chemical fertilizers in that they feed your plants while

building a healthy soil. They are considered the more environmentally friendly option.

Soils with plenty of organic material remain loose and light, retain more moisture and

nutrients, and foster growth of soil micro-organisms that promote healthier plants and root

development.

Rabbit manure is one of the qualities to make an organic fertilizer because the

fresh rabbit manure is approximately 2% nitrogen, 1 % phosphorus and 1 % potassium.

Use it fresh, straight from under the hutch. It does not burn plants. And also Rabbit

manure has four times more nutrients than cow or horse manure and is twice as rich as

chicken manure. Cow, horse and chicken manure are considered “hot” and need to be

composted (well-rotted) to use as fertilizers. And It improves the life cycle of

microorganisms in the soil.

Developing a designed rabbit hutch with effective collector of manure will help to

easily get, and fast accumulate of the manure of rabbit, for the organic fertilizer that will

help the school on having a source of organic fertilizer.

2
LEGAL BASIS

REPUBLIC ACT NO. 10068 AN ACT PROVIDING FOR THE DEVELOPMENT

AND PROMOTION OF ORGANIC AGRICULTURE IN THE PHILIPPINES AND OTHER

PURPOSES. This act shall be known as the “Organic Agriculture Act of 2010”. It is

hereby declared the policy of the State to promote, propagate, develop further and

implement the practice of organic agriculture in the Philippines that will cumulatively

condition and enrich the fertility of the soil, increase farm productivity, reduce pollution

and destruction of the environment, prevent the depletion of natural resources, further

protect the health of farmers, consumers, and the general public, and save one imported

farm inputs. Towards this end, a comprehensive program for the promotion of community-

based organic fertilizers such as compost, pesticides, and other farm inputs, together with

a nationwide educational and promotional campaign for their use and processing as well

as adoption of organic agriculture system as a viable alternative shall be undertaken. The

State recognizes and support the central role of the farmers, indigenous people and other

stakeholders at the grassroots in this program.

3
STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM

This study aims to determine how the designed rabbit hutch with effective collector

of manure will help San Isidro National High School in providing a source of organic

fertilizer. This study sought to answer the following questions:

1. How effective is the Designed Rabbit Hutch with Effective Collector of manure

in providing a source of organic fertilizer in San Isidro National High School?

2. What is the level of acceptability of the respondents to Designed Rabbit Hutch

with Effective Collector of Manure in terms of:

1.1 Function

1.2 Design

1.3 Durability

SCOPE AND DELIMITATION

The main purpose of this study is to Designed Rabbit Hutch with effective collector

of manure, that will provide a source of organic fertilizer for San Isidro National High

School. The intent of the study is to see how the Designed Rabbit Hutch with Effective

Collector of manure will help San Isidro National High School for providing a source of

organic fertilizer.

The researchers limited the study to 15 Technical and Livelihood Education

teachers in San Isidro National High school. Each of the respondents was given a

4
questionnaire to answer. The teachers selected came from different department to

prevent bias and get objective perceptions.

SIGNIFICANCE OF THE STUDY

This study aims to Design Rabbit Hutch with effective collector of manure that will

help San Isidro National High School on having a source of organic fertilizer for garden.

This study will also be beneficial to the following:

To Technical and Livelihood Education Teachers, the designed rabbit hutch will

help them on solving the problem in the garden of the school.

To students, this study opens the opportunity to them on having a knowledge for

composting an organic fertilizer. If they have a pet in the house it can be a big help on

composting the manure. It can also widen their ideas when it comes to designing an

effective collector of rabbit manure.

To future researchers, this study can serve as a guide if their study was related

to their research. It can also serve as their basis on choosing a topic. And help them to

Review of related literature

Alexander Slocum (2008) in the “Fundamentals of Design” stated that “Planning a

design can be like planning a party. You have to start by making some broad assumptions

that enable you to then plan the next level of detail. Finally, you can order all the stuff and

then start setting up and preparing. You must make some initial estimates based on what

you think is a reasonable level of detail. As time moves along, you get more and more

detailed information which allows you to refine and better execute your plan.”

Savannah Beckler-Jones (2018) in the “Why is a Design Process Important?”

stated that “Having a design process allows us to be more efficient and transparent when

we are designing an app. Since we have a plan laid out that has been tested and refined,

we can make sure we’re always moving forward and not having to retrace our steps, and

the client will trust the decisions and suggestions that we are making.”

Colin gray (2018) in the “My Design Philosophy” stated that “Every individual brings

a unique approach to the act of designing, which binds together the ethics, values, beliefs,

experiences, culture, and other hegemonic assumptions of that individual in the process

of design and is infused in the final designed artifact. This brief statement structures some

of my core beliefs about design and the design process, which encapsulates my design

philosophy or design identity.”

7
Jesse Weaver (2018) in the “What is Your Design Philosophy?” said that “For

something to be “well designed” it could be simple, or it could be complex. It could be

considered aesthetically pleasing, or it could be considered gaudy. Aesthetics and

simplicity are not requirements. For something to be well designed, the key requirement is

that its function must be obvious. A person should be able to easily determine how to use

and interact with it.”

Charles Fulhage (2012) in the “Manure Collection and Handling Equipment” it is

all about how Manure storage and handling systems enable livestock producers to

efficiently utilize all the components in their manure management system. Where the type

of equipment and procedures used to collect and handle manure depends primarily upon

the consistency or “thickness” of the manure. The term “solids content” or “per cent solids”

is often used to describe this characteristic in manure. Different species of livestock

excrete manure with different per cent solids.

Alvalyn Lundgren (2018) in the “Why the Design Process Is Important” The

strength of a design lies as much in the steps taken to create it as in the final result. The

process the totality of time, effort and attempt at solving the given design problem

demonstrates the care a designer is willing to take and the depth to which he is willing to

go on behalf of the client. A good process will pretty much guarantee a good result.

Tim Skene (2018) stated that “Good design is innovative”. The possibilities for

innovation are not, by any means, exhausted. Technological development is always

offering new opportunities for innovative design. But innovative design always develops

in tandem with innovative technology, and can never be an end in itself.
