A messy apartment living room.

A knock on the door. MILA enters in

pajamas from being woken up. She
looks at the clock. There’s another
knock.

MILA
(yelling)
Give me a sec!

Mila opens the door. OFFICER

REID enters the room. He takes a
walk around the area.

OFFICER REID
(looks around)
Ma’am, this is disturbing.

MILA
Sorry, I didn’t know I was expecting company at 4 in the morning. How can I help you Officer
Reid?

OFFICER REID
I have a warrant for your arrest.

MILA
What for?

OFFICER REID
Not returning my phone calls.

Mila turns on a lamp and sits down

MILA
Ha-ha. Very funny, Erick.

Officer Reid sits down next to Mila

OFFICER REID
You know I scared you.

MILA
No you didn’t. I’m too tired to care right now. (beat) What are you even doing here?

OFFICER REID
I wanted to check on my friend. You haven’t text or called me back.

MILA
For one night of silence?

OFFICER REID
Uh, yeah. Mila, you’re never quiet.

MILA
Whatever.
Mila play punches him

OFFICER REID
Watch yourself. I may have to take you in for assaulting an Officer.

They laugh

OFFICER REID
That was bad. I’m sorry.

MILA
You’re good. I needed that laugh. What really brought you here? Your shift is usually over at 6.

OFFICER REID
Captain let me go home early.

MILA
Did he say why?

Officer Reid looks at Mila

MILA
Oh no. What happened?

OFFICER REID
I’m embarrassed.

Mila goes to get them some water.

Officer Reed picks up a picture
frame from the side table. Once he’s
finished looking at it, he sits it down
and knocks over a bunch of items in
the process.

OFFICER REID
(yelling)
Sorry!

Mila returns with the water

MILA
Don’t drop this.

Mila hands him water. She puts hers

down and starts cleaning up what
was knocked down and tidies her
own mess.

MILA
So, tell me what happened, Erick.

Officer Reid takes a sip of water

OFFICER REID
I burst a tire on a squad car.

MILA
For real?

OFFICER REID
Yes. It was Captain’s squad car which made it even worse. I was talking with another cop next to
the car. I was reaching for my keys and they flew out of my hand and went straight into the tire.

MILA
How is that even possible?

OFFICER REID
I don’t know, but it did. Captain came out, asked who did it, and he sent me home.

MILA
That sucks.

Officer Reid finishes off his water.

OFFICER REID
Yep. I’ll live. He didn’t fire me so that’s good.

MILA
Always.

Officer Reid moves his hand and

knocks over Mila’s water. He tries to
clean it up quickly. Mila stops him
and cleans it herself.

MILA
Don’t worry. I got it.

OFFICER REID
Everything I touch falls apart.
Officer Reid covers his face

MILA
Relax!

Mila sits next to him.

MILA
Things can be fixed if you try hard enough.

Officer Reid peaks through his hands

OFFICER REID
Really?

Mila removes his hands from his face

MILA
Yes.

They share a smile

OFFICER REID
You’re a great friend.

MILA
I know. You want to watch some tv?

OFFFICER REID
Of course.

Officer Reid reaches for the tv

remote. Mila stops him and grabs it
herself.

MILA
Nope! You aren’t touching another thing of mine until you start investing in bubble wrap, mister.

They smile at each other. Mila turns

on the tv.
