Art touches both the visible and invisible part of the world; it bridges the gap between
reality and imagination. It portrays the world we live in and also recreates a world more bearable
than the present human condition resides. It sparks our interest about an object and widens our
imagination that leads to a creation beyond the cognitive ability of man to explain. It touches the
soul before it reaches the eyes and processes the mind. Art can be in forms of paintings,
sculptures, poetry, music, film, and many more. The meaning of ‘art’ has evolved as a man’s way
of life advanced. Art, as we may observed it or not, has become an integral part of our lives; or
it’s much more appropriate to say that art is what keeps us alive.
I appreciate art as much as I enjoy it. I learned art through school but I appreciated it more
in my personal time. The meaning has evolved through time and as for me, music is one of the
forms of art that I truly enjoy. Listening to different genres of music from jazz, pop, to indie rock
is one of my hobby. Music helps me relax and simply dance away my problems. Not only that,
but music increases productivity and creativity as well.
Aside from music, films have developed into a new kind of art. I have grown fondness
over quality local films. Not that I am an expert in criticizing films, but I’m amused about well-
written scripts with good cinematography and sounds. From motion pictures to still images, I
myself love capturing objects in their own light and color. Still photographs directs me outward
— to that relaxing place I’ve been to and it directs me inward— to that feeling of leaving the
place behind and not remember the faces of people I’ve encountered.
The beauty of art lies in its sake for being art in itself; it does not need any translation as
it speaks for itself. It communicates to us, it connects to us in a way that we can’t fully decipher
and translate into words. It is that kind of experience when looking at a painting for the first time
brings unfamiliarity and the familiarity overlaps as your eyes recognize and follows through the
rhythm, focusing on which shape is given emphasis, to finding that balance and variety. Art
bridges any differences in our backgrounds and through it we are able to enjoy the experiences
of others and express our own liking to it; thus resulting to this kind of connection between the
art itself, the artist, and the artist’s experiences.
Art, as mostly appreciated by many, serves as an account to culture and history. The
context which the art was made, influences the artist’s perspective and the product itself. Art
aesthetically reflects the human condition; from the beauty of life to it unpleasant experiences.
Art allows us to see our own capicity, as well as others’. Appreciate art in its own beauty
regardless of its meaning. Like enjoying music in different languages.
There’s no particular thing that I don’t like about art, because whether it passes the
standard of what’s art and what’s not, every art exudes a different charm and it conveys and
expresses a different meaning depending on the artist’s perspective and experience. But I don’t
like the factors that sorround art, particularly how it is used. Government and religion have seen
the capacity of art to influence the way people think and behave. Art has somehow become a
sign of social status, as there’s this notion that art related program can only be pursued by rich
people and visiting art galleries is considered privelege.
