NARRATIVE REPORT ON
PROMOTING FAMILY EARTHQUAKE PREPAREDNESS
S.Y. 2019- 2020
July 29, 2019

Natural disasters cannot be prevented from happening but we can take

counter measures to minimize the damage and loss it can brought to the
community. The Department of Education in partnership with the National
Disaster Risk Reduction Management Council (NDRRMC), and members of
Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction Management Council (MDRRMC)
initiated the best way to keep people safe from certain catastrophes such as
earthquake by performing quarterly National school-based earthquake and
fire drills.
Aside from Nationwide Simultaneous Earthquake Drill (NSED)
which is conducted every year, a survey form was released to the families of
students concerning the do’ s and don’ts before, during and after the
earthquake. The objective of the survey was to measure the preparedness of
families and to promote readiness for the possible earthquake with the
impact of a 7.2 magnitude in the National Capital Region(NCR), Region III
and Region IV-A. Students were already given briefing about the things that
they need to bear in mind not just during the drill but during the actual
earthquake as well and it is their responsibility to inform their families on
how to be prepared for this kind of disaster. The number of families
responded was 400 from different sections and year level of the school.
