An Initiative of Smart Rail Toilets at DBRG Coaching Depot

Introduction :
The Smart Rail Toilet is an IoT (Internet of Things) Based Toilet Management System for Trains
to collect customer feedback and predict cleanliness schedule using Smart Sensors
Toilet feedback system provides a convenient tool for monitoring toilet cleanliness and
improving toilet service. The 7 Inch interactive touch feedback system enables visitor to rate
their experience and submit a service request for poor and bad services.
Data collected with analytics provide predictive cleaning and inventory usage.

Smart Rail Toilets is fitted in the following coaches of Train No. 20503/20504 and 20505/20506
(Rajdhani Express) of DBRG Coaching Depot :
i. Coach No. 12002/C LWFAC,
ii. Coach No. 15067/C LWACCW,
iii. Coach No. 182291/C LWACCN

Working Principle :

i. The toilet feedback system gas a display device which has following 3 icons to Rate
the experience of passengers
a. 1st icon : Good
b. 2nd icon : Average
c. 3rd icon : Bad
d. And also EMERGENCY button - For emergency message to OBHS staff.

If the 3rd icon, i.e. Bad is pressed by passenger a feedback screen is displayed as
follows :

1st – Foul Smell; 2nd – Mirror Dirty, 3rd –Toilet Bowl dirty
4th – Wet floor; 5th – Water tap dirty; 6th – No toilet paper
7 – Rubbish bin full; 8th – No soap;

9th – Hand drier faulty

A thank you message is displayed and Railway gets the necessary feedback.

ii. Sensor Device

In addition , There are 2 sensor devices in the Sensor set fitted in toilets the smart
sensors calculate the count of people using the toilet and ammonia odour :

i. Ammonia Sensor – high level ammonia odour (> 20 ppm) to send trigger to
cleaning staff for scheduling maintenance. When the sensor has reached the
desired level, it immediately messages the web server which in turn messages to
the mobile which are being set for receiving the message.

ii. People count sensor : counts no of people who have entered the toilet for use and
can be set to no of people count as desired. When the sensor has reaches the
desired no of people counts, it immediately messages the web server which in turn
messages to the mobile which are being set for receiving the message.
