Bible Verse:
Write the verse of the week somewhere prominent, and read it together frequently.
There’s a free album called Songs for Saplings: ABC that features many of the Bible
verses we will be focusing on, including this one! You can download the album at
songsforsaplings.com, or listen to the album on Spotify.

Character Trait:
Whenever you see your child demonstrating kindness, encourage and affirm them!

“That was such a kind thing to do, ______!”

“You are a kind person.”
“Thank you for being so kind to your sister/brother/the dog/etc., _____.”
“You have a kind heart.”
“Thank you for thinking of (recipient of the act of kindness) before yourself.”

Language Arts/Pre-reading:
Week 3: Letter of the week: Cc
Phonemic awareness: Prepare a list of words starting with the hard c sound. Tell your
child to pretend to take a bite of a cookie every time they hear the sound c (/ k /)at
the beginning of the word.
Introduce skywriting: skywriting is an important tool to reinforce proper letter formation.
Demonstrate for your child by showing them a picture of the letter C.
Parent: “We are going to learn to skywrite this sound. Watch me first.”
Stand up and extend your dominant arm in front of you.
“Ready?” Now say the sound / k / (Skywrite and say letter “c” as you are forming it)
/ k / (underline the sound and say the sound.

Have your child stand up straight and stretch their writing arm out in front of them as
far as they can. Then help them to extend their pointer and middle finger of their
writing hand – this is their “sky pen.” Have them repeat it three times.

If you need a visual guide, you can look up skywriting videos online.

Week 2 - Letter of the week – Cc:

Here’s a fun multisensory activity for introducing the letter C. Bake C cookies together!
https://teachingmama.org/c-is-for-cookie/

Optional Activities:
- Use play-dough mats to practice letter formation of both Cc and Aa.
- Ask your child to tell you their favorite cookie flavors. Then ask them to help you
design a new cookie flavor.

Math
Week 3 and 4 – sorting and classifying objects by characteristics
In class, we will be working on lots of hands-on projects to develop mastery of
classifying and sorting objects by characteristics. Complete pages 1-12 in Dimensions
Math Workbook PKA to supplement and help develop mastery.

Academic Readiness: Spelling First Names

There are many ways to practice learning to spell first names. My personal favorite is
through song. Here are some suggestions based on the number of letters in your
child’s name.

Four-letter names:
(To the tune of “When the Saints Go Marching In”):
Oh my name's John.
J-O-H-N
Oh my name's John,
J-O-H-N.
Oh, yeah, my name is easy to spell.
John is spelled J-O-H-N

Five-letter names:
(To the tune of “Bingo”):
There was a boy/girl named ____________, here’s how you spell his/her name______
That’s how you spell ________________(name)

Six-letter names:
(To the tune of “The Farmer in the Dell”):
A -M- A- N- D- A,
A- M- A- N- D- A,
That's how you spell my name,
A- M- A- N- D- A.

7-letter names:
(To the tune of “Twinkle Twinkle Little Star”)
M-A-D-I-S-O-N
That’s how you spell Madison.
M-A-D-I-S-O-N
Madison, yes, Madison.
M-A-D-I-S-O-N
That's how you spell Madison.

8-letter names:
(To the tune of “Row Your Boat”)
F-L-A-N-N-E-R-Y
That is how you spell my name

Fine motor skills:

Your child is most likely in the pre-writing stage of development! There are many
activities that you can utilize on a daily basis to prepare your child for writing. Here
are just a few suggestions – you can find many others online.

1. Play with Play-Dough.

2. Play with kinetic sand.

3. Q-tip painting. Use a plastic paint palette or small ice tray and Q-tips. This really
helps to refine the pincer grasp necessary to hold a pencil!

4. Lacing cards. You can almost always find these in the dollar spot at Target. Another
option is to use large beads and pipe cleaners. If your child is interested in making
jewelry, you can purchase plastic lacing needles, cord and beads at craft stores.

5. Cutting with scissors. Another great activity to develop grip and hand-eye
coordination. I like to use sheets of craft foam with simple lines or zig-zags drawn in
Sharpie – it’s a little more challenging than using regular paper.

6. Opening and closing clothespins.

7. Picking up pom poms with large plastic tweezers.

8. Dot-a-dot markers and coloring sheets.
