LEARNING DIFFERENCES &

PLANNING FOR INSTRUCTION
Dr. Blundell always does a great job of integrating what
we, as students, learn in the class, into a creation that can
be used as educators.
This year (at my job), I was put into a new position of
teaching ILC students math. This would be the Nebraska
equivalent of severe/profound. As a mild/moderate
teacher, I have not often worked with ILC students close-
ly, let along being the sole source of their math curricu-
lum.
At first, I started with the Bridges program, which is
meant to be a supplemental curriculum for 5th graders
(I’m teaching 7th grade). After a month in the program, I
was starting to realize that with a differentiated, 7th
grade math curriculum, these students would be able to
access grade-level math.
I’m not one to truly believe in Providence, but taking this CURRICULUM
class during this process in my career has been life- DEVELOPMENT
changing. I feel that what I’m learning in Curriculum
Development is guiding me to create a curriculum that
can help my students succeed. FALL 2019

As of now, for the past 2 months presenting a differenti-

ated curriculum to these students, they are able to test
DR. PATTI BLUNDELL
(via progress monitoring) as well as my students in gen
ed math. I’m looking forward to finishing the curriculum
I’m working on for this class, and implementing it!
