CPE STM1
EI NO.
1.0 SCOPE:
This Engineering Instruction provides Installation information and describes various tests to be conducted on
CPE (Customer Premises Equipment) STM1 during commissioning. The system is manufactured by M/s
TEJAS Networks, Inc. USA and supplied by ITI.
2.0 GENERAL:
The equipment establishes a 622/155 Mb/s trans system whose high flexibility allows to set up various
configurations mainly line terminal or insert/ drop multiplexer with protection option. The equipment can be
plesiosync or synchronous i.e. 2/34/140 PDH tributaries or 155.520/622 Mb/s synchronous tributaries.
The equipment can be configured independently in Mesh, Ring, linear and Bus architectures and also a mix
of the above. Also it can be flexibly configured with equipment redundancy for all or for a selected few
among the modules.
The main features of the system is
1) Easy network manageability
2) Flexible configuration
3) Lower cost per line
4) Easy upgradeability
5) Support for both data and voice over SDH
6) Higher reliability
3.0 INSTALLATION:
3.1 Unpacking:
First check the shipment container for any kind of damage and then unpack the equipment pack with upright
mark always at the top, remove all shock proof materials, polyethylene packing and ascertain and confirm
that no physical damage taken place and items available as per packing list.
Submit changes and accept the Modifications. (System will go to the warm-reboot state and after 3
minutes, you can login to the system)
If you are connecting other Tejas Node to this Local Node, then set the Remote node with the Router ID
& Ethernet IP as follows:

Limit:
Connect the optical variable attenuator in between optical trans and receive port and Laser in forced on
condition feed and receive 2 Mb/s between TX and RX with the help of PDH/ SDH analyser. Reducing
the power by varying optical attenuator, where the BER with no error, measure the lower threshold point
through optical power meter at the output of attenuator.
To measure the optical overload point test set up is same and increase the receive power by varying optical
attenuator, where the BER with no error, measure the overload point through optical power meter at the
output of attenuator.
Receiver over load Limit:
For S1.1 -8 dbm
For L1.1 -10 dbm
For L1.2 -10 dbm

34.368 Mb/s-----------+/- 20 ppm
139.264 Mb/s----------+/- 15 ppm

For 34.368Mb/s:
f1 100 Hz ------------- >/= 1.5 UI PP
f2 1.0 Khz ------------- >/= 1.5 UI PP
f3 10 Khz ------------- >/= 0.2 UI PP

f2 6.5 Khz ------------- >/= 1.5 UI PP
f3 65 Khz ------------- >/= 0.2 UI PP
f4 1300 Khz ------------- >/= 0.2 UI PP
7.1 Mapping:
The CPE SDH system Trans optical port is connected to the Receive STM1 optical input of the SDH
analyser and the PDH 2/34/140/155Mb/s Trans electrical output of the Analyser is connected to the PDH
2/34/140/155Mb/s.tributaries electrical RX of CPE SDH equipment.
Measure the BER for 5min.and the result better than 1x10-10.
7.2 De-mapping:
The Optical STM1 Trans output of the SDH analyzer is connected to the receive optical port of the CPE
SDH system and the PDH 2/34/140/155Mb/s. tributaries electrical TX of CPE SDH equipment is
connected to the 2/34/140/155Mb/s receive electrical input of the Analyser.
Measure the BER for 5min.and the result better than 1x10-10.
8.0 Alarms:
Connect the Optical STM1 trans output of the SDH Analyser to the receive optical port of CPE SDH
system and vice versa, inject alarm with Anomaly/ Defect analyser and record the alarms.
(Note: For the electrical 155Mb/s the above set up is same but instead of optical port, electrical port to be
connected both in Analyser and CPE SDH system.)
Monitor the current alarm through PC/ Laptop by local access and select
THROUGH TEST:
8. 2 BER Check:
With the distant end loop at 2, 34, 140, 155 measure the Bit error ratio for at least 5 minutes each at normal
clock & +/- the prescribed offset value and record.
Limits:
2.048 Mb/s-------------+/- 50 ppm
34.368 Mb/s-----------+/- 20 ppm
139.264 Mb/s----------+/- 15 ppm
155.520 Mb/s----------+/- 20 ppm
For 34.368Mb/s:
f1 100 Hz ------------- >/= 1.5 UI PP
f2 1.0 Khz ------------- >/= 1.5 UI PP
f3 10 Khz ------------- >/= 0.2 UI PP
f4 800 Khz ------------- >/= 0.2 UI PP
For 139.264Mb/s:
f1 200 Hz ------------- >/= 1.5 UI PP
f2 500 Hz ------------- >/= 1.5 UI PP
f3 10 Khz ------------- >/= 0.2 UI PP
f4 800 Khz ------------- >/= 0.2 UI PP
For 155.520Mb/s:

f2 6.5 Khz ------------- >/= 1.5 UI PP
f3 65 Khz ------------- >/= 0.2 UI PP
f4 1300 Khz ------------- >/= 0.2 UI PP
For Example: You are at Node A (192.168.1.254) and would like to login Node B (192.168.254.2)
*) You have to configure IP Address, Subnet Mask & Default Gateway of your laptop/PC at Local Node
A(192.168.1.254) as follows:
IP Address…………… : 192.168.1.200
SubnetMask………….: 255.255.255.0
Default Gateway…….. : 192.168.1.254
route add 192.168.254.0 mask 255.255.255.0 192.168.1.254 (and then press enter key).
Now you will be able to ping the remote node with it’s Router ID.
If you are able to ping, then by giving the http://RouterID:20080 in the Internet explorer, you will be able to
see the Remote node UI page, after giving the User name & Password.
When you take the Windows Laptop/ PC to remote Node say Node-D, then connect the Laptop/ PC to
Node-D NMS Port and then:
*) You have to configure IP Address, Subnet Mask & Default Gateway of your laptop/PC at Local Node
D(192.168.4.254) as follows:
IP Address…………… : 192.168.4.200
SubnetMask………….: 255.255.255.0
Default Gateway……..: 192.168.4.254
Maintenance operation Æ STM1/PDH Æ Loop back Æ Normal/ facility loop back/ terminal loop back.
Normal for normal working condition,
Facility Loop back for STM port local loop back,
Terminal loop back for PDH local loop back.
Check the working of order wire by selective calling each station for ring and speech and repeat the same
for group calling.
For Setting the Order Wire, please follow the below procedure (Not applicable for TJ100CP).
Provisioning Æ Order wireÆ View Order wire Segment(s) Æ Create order wire segmentÆ Give any two
digit Segment no. (ex.12)
Segment No: 12
Carrier Byte: E1
Port1 Select the STM Optical Aggr. Port 1
EOW admin status for port1: Enable
Port2 Select the STM Optical Aggr. Port 2
EOW admin status for port2: Enable
and then Press Submit.
Pl. Note: The Segment No. for all the Nodes connected through the Optical Fibers should be same (i.e. two
digit no.)
For Selective Calling: # Segment No. Order wire no. ( ex. #12123)
For Omni-Bus Calling: # Segment No. 251. ( ex. #12251)
