INTRODUCTION AND BRIEF OF PROJECT 
 
Description​​:

Phoenix Resi-Com is a project by Ratnam Group Under partnership firm


Named “Yamuna Enterprises LLP”

It contains Shops, Showrooms, offices in the commercial section and 2 and


3 BHK luxurious Flats in the residential section. The project is well
equipped with all basic amenities to facilitate the needs of all the residents
and shop owners. The site is in close proximity to various civic utilities.

WORK DONE DURING INTERNSHIP 
 
 
WEEK 1: 
● ​Footings are an important part of foundation
construction. They are typically made of concrete with
rebar reinforcement that has been poured into an
excavated trench. The purpose of footings is to support the
foundation and prevent settling. Footings are especially
important in areas with troublesome soils.


​ ​Step1: Positioning of Footing, drafting the plan by the
structural engineer, which gives the dimensions of the
footing (the picture of the footing plan is attached in this
sheet below)
 
   
 
   
 
WEEK 2: 
 
● ​Before the excavation for the proposed foundation was
commenced, the site was cleared of vegetation,
brushwood, stumps of trees etc. Roots of the trees were
removed to at least 30 cm below the foundation level. The
pits formed due to roots of trees, old foundations etc. were
filled up with soil and compacted with the help of a roller.

 
● ​Then we Excavated a trench on earth for the footing. The
size of the trench was 1′ bigger in both sides than the
footing size. It is done for placing and removing shutter
easily. JCB machine was used as an Excavator.

 
● ​The depth of a trench will depend on the earth
conditions and dimensions of footing.

- Then we prepared the base of the foundation, the


base we made was of cement concrete.Levelling of the
base was done by the use of levelling instruments.

1. Anti-termite treatment was done to save the soil


from the termites so as to retain its strength and
bearing capacity to provide optimum strength.

   
WEEK 3: 
 
Step: 1- We provided formwork as specified in the
plan for different columns, We used steel formwork in
this purpose.

Then we cut the steel reinforcement as required sizes


and provided L-bend as shown in the structural
drawing. We made the reinforcing net for the footing
separately and placed it in footing position later.

Then we provided a cover block to make the base of


the footing intact and in position.

Then we placed the column reinforcement and pour


concrete in the formwork structure after checking it
for any leaks.

 
WEEK 4: 
 
- After the concrete has gained proper strength, we
remove the formwork, after we have repaired the
honeycomb structures

- Later on, we filled the trench we dug with soil and we

WEEK 5: 

● ​ Firstly, excavation was done for laying out the


structure for the underground water tank.

● The foundations and the steel was laid according to


the plan designed by the structural engineer, the
purpose of the tank was to provide water to the
residents and shop owners.

As you can see there is a steel structure laid for the


underground water tank.
WEEK 6 

● firstly , we looked upto the plans for the slab


● These pictures show the plan of the slab to be
constructed, steel was laid according to the plan and its
shown in the images below.
- Concrete was pumped inside it through RMC (ready
mix concrete trucks) and the slab was cured, as the
climate was very hot, we used gunny bags for the
curing of cement, the concrete should be cured as it
attains maximum strength.
Learning from the training. 

● From this summer internship, I came to know


about the actual execution of work onthe site. This is
as equally important as studies and the theoretical
knowledge.

● First of all, I started the internship with the


readings of drawings and plans because we should
know what we have to execute.

● After that I was fully conversant with drawings, I


was allowed to go to the site.

● After that I went to the site, I came to know about


how carefully the materials are to be stocked, specially
steel and cement.

● I learnt about the manufacturing of double brick,


CC blocks.
● At site, I learnt that how the cutting length and
bending length of the steel are very important.

● Even the smallest of errors in cutting and bending


length can affect the project majorly.

● I came to know about the importance of mix design


of concrete and how to keep its quality intact.

● Most importantly I came to know about the


concrete covers at the bottom, sides and top of the jail
and column.

● I came to know that the columns of bigger dia like


20mm, 22mm, 25mm etc have to be tied just near
where they have to be placed, because they are very
heavy to carry.

● Centering and shuttering plays the most important


part in the casting.

● The role of compaction and vibration are also very


important.
● Curing has the most important role to play in
gaining the strengthening of concrete.

Outcome and usefulness of the training to the


ME and in terms of skill enhancement.

● From this industrial training, I have developed the


skill of reading the plans and drawings.

● I have become more conversant to the construction


methodologies that I was taught about in the
university.

● I have enhanced my skills about the behavior of


concrete of different grades to different conditions.

● I came to know about more technical terms in steel


line cutting length, bending length, how to tie
columns.
● I have developed the skill of marking the centre line
of columns at site.

● I have seen how to manage the labourers and


materials for different leads of casting on concreting.
Brief of theory learnt in three years 
and its application use in training. 
 
● Starting from the excavation I came to know about
the various properties of soil and its behavior.

● The bearing capacity of soil plays the most


important role in construction industry.

● As we have studied that the footings cannot be laid


on as uneven surface so PCC was laid over the
excavated ground to place the footing on smooth
surface and also to transfer load to soil.

● We have learnt that the bricks and blocks which are


to be used in the buildings should be of good quality
and the brick should not be under sized or over burnt
but in this project double bricks CC blocks are used
because the bricks which are available were are most
of this times under sized or over burnt and the blocks
are more severe to cracking, therefore the depart has
divided to use double brick blocks.
● For making a building to last for years, the material
should be proper and of good quality, the steel used
was of SAIL & VIZAG TIMT Fe 500 and cement
was PPC Sanghi Cement.

● We have studied that the concrete is the most


important past of the building, if lower
grade concrete or bad quality concrete is used the
building will show signs of failure within few years.
The most important thing is the mix design of the
concrete.

● The mix design was provided by the department


and with no compromise in quality and keep cement,
sand and aggregate in weights which they were
mentioned weigh batcher was provided at the site and
special care was taken of the water content.

● Good quality of concrete will do good if proper and


enough curing is not done to the casted concrete
special care was given to the curing at site because the
high temperature in Vadodara region.

● Steel is also important component of a building and


proper grade of steel and perfect centering of centre
line of columns and RCC jail are very important to
keep the building truly at right angle or as designed.
